Hey Crockett. Highly recommended to install this as it fixes a couple of recent exploits just discovered.
Glad to see they stay on top of any vulnerabilities found.

    Hi Crockett.

    I just installed Opera 7.22.
Saved the relevant files for mail, wand data, and my favorite skin.
I was able to keep all of the data and skins that I wanted.

Looks to be a stable browser so far.
    But I expected that. ;)
And best of all, they addressed the security issue. :)

    Hi Tester ;)

    Hope you're doing fine.

Is there any specific reason that you save your personal files, then install Opera, then re-inject the files into the new version ? Usually, I just install a new version upon the previous one...

May not be the most elegant method, but works perfectly fine for me that way.

BTW, I was wondering which Opera Skin the Opera users prefer...

Right now, I'm on Phoenix Redux, which looks something like this... :)

Some other time, just for fun, I find myself switching to the BlueXP 2003 which I like a lot, despite it being more tiring for the eyes.... :)

But the Classic opera Skin I find very beautiful too...

So, to sum up, I'd say my number one skin for Opera is Phoenix Redux, number two the Classical one, and third place for BlueXP 2003.

I recall I also appreciated very much the Phoenix skin back in Opera 6.05.

    Hi Crockett.

The main reason that I save the files is the skins and habit. ;)

I have noticed that the skins that I like(Volter's)are not available for long on the skin site.
I haven't found another site with those skins for Opera yet.
I have to have the MacOS Jaguar skin.
I wish that I saved some of Volter's skins before.
I got "hooked" on his work!

I keep the wand data because it's so easy to save and install.

I usually uninstall Opera after moving the files to a particular folder.I run Ace Utilities registry cleaner after a reboot and then I delete the old Opera folder in program files.
Then I install the new version and move the files to the new browser in "program files" or "application data" section.

The way that I do this is a habit that I got into when switching any software program.
    I guess it's a routine for me.
    Maybe not a neccessity. ;)

    Hey Crockett.

There are some great skins for Opera, that's for sure! ;)

    I like MacOS Jaguar.
CopperDeck was very colorful with copper and a shade of grey.
I changed the color from no colors to crimson for that one.

Here's MacOS Jaguar with no colors...

    Hi bigc73542 :)

None of my business, but I just noticed the image definition of your screenshots seems to be less clear than other posters in this thread...

Are you using MwSnap3 too (freeware) ?

Hope you don't mind my asking you...

Hi Crockett! Thank you for the notice of Opera 7.22. :) i just did the upgrade from 7.20 to 7.22, installing it the same way you did, and everything went fine. (of course, i did save my bookmarks, just in case...'cause i'd be devastated if i lost them all...wayyyyy to many to go back and hunt them all down again).

The only thing i was disappointed with though, and had hoped the upgrade to Opera 7.22 would solve it, but i am still unable to make a post at dslreports using Opera7 - the bottom buttons won't show up until i refresh the page, then they won't be clickable to make the post with. Its the only board i've been unable to make a post with using Opera7. With Opera 6 it works fine! So i am still keeping my Opera 6 installed. :D Is anyone else having problems posting at any of the boards with Opera7?

But i LOVE the skins they have for Opera7.....favourite being Bump7! ooh yeah! :D

Never had any problems at DSLR, but I have another mistery that started a few days ago.

After doing a Google search, when I click the Groups tab, I get a Not found error because it tries to go to:
    http://www.google.nlhttp//groups.google.nl/groups?
    instead of:
    http://groups.google.com/groups?

A fresh install of 7.22 did not solve this.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi Pieter :)

    I know.

A real mystery, indeed... Same problem for a whole bunch of Opera users, while Google works perfectly for some others !

From all I 've read, I think it's not 7.22-specific, and don't even believe it's an Opera bug.

    Please, see http://my.opera.com/forums/showthread.php?s=fda69a6ae61714bb0ddeac195a8a77a6&threadid=36548

Thanks for pointing me there Crockett.
I just rightclick the link, Copy link address, and Paste & Go that in the address bar. I can live with that for a little longer. ;)

Only have that on this computer (win2k sp4) and just like the others it suddenly started out of the blue. o_O

    Regards,

    Pieter

You mean you don't have that problem when trying on another computer of yours ?

Also, the problem didn't start right after you first installed 7.22, but later - is that my understanding ?

    Hi Crockett,

No problem on other computers, neither for IE on the same computer.

I still had 7.21 when it started and did a clean install of 7.22 hoping that would cure it, but that didn't help either.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi Pieter, Crockett, :)

i saw Pieter's comment about Google's tabs, and i tried it myself using both Opera6.05 and 7.22, and i am getting the same results as Pieter described using Opera7.22.

If i do a Web search first, and try to jump to the Image tab, i get the pop-up error msg. But if i do an Image search first, and try to jump to the Web tab, i get an error page.

Right-clicking the tab and selecting either "open", or "open in new page", will let me move from the Web tab to the Image tab fine though.

i then went to dslreports forum to test a post with Opera7.22, javascript disabled, and my post went through fine. But with javascript enabled...i cannot post using Opera7.22, just like when i used Opera7.20.

So it seems with regards to the problem with the tabs at Google, and the problem with the buttons (could they be considered tab-like also?) being clickable for me at dslreports forum, javascript has to be disabled in Opera 7 versions for them to work. Both problems persist for me if i have javascript enabled in Opera7.22 (also in Opera7.20).

This doesn't happen in Opera6.05, with or without javascript enabled. So i do think this is a bug of some kind in the Opera7 versions with how it handles javascript (not sure how that would be explained technically?? But it definitely involves javascript).

i am using both Opera6.05 and Opera7.22 on the same computer, XP-Home, and settings for both browsers are as similar as possible.

Not sure if any of that helps anyone, lol..but, thought i'd add what i experienced.

    snap

edited to add - both browsers are paid versions, but not sure that makes any difference or not with the above?

crockett let me tell you all about it :D I was playing around with my screen shot app. and I messed up and left it set on the wrong format. check the post at the link.
I'm working on it. Please don't hesitate to mention something in one of my post's if it doesn't seem right. I might learn something that way.

Hey Snap, To post at DSLR you need for Opera to identify as Opera under Preferences/Network.

anyone know what the security hole was id'd by Masood and how serious it was (low moderate critical)?

Changelog for Opera 7.22 for Windows:

    Privacy and security

Security update specifically addressing the downloading of setup files in Opera (bug reported by S.G. Masood)

    Hi guys ! :)

Peak', glad to know you get similar results as I do - I thought I might not have the same Opera browser as anyone else :D Please, see http://www.securityfocus.com/archive/1/344225

Pieter :) Thanks, now I see your point...

Hi Root ! And I thought I was the only Opera fan around here !... :D

Snap' :), hope you're gonna follow Root's suggestion and report here on your findings...

Hi bigc73542 ;) I followed the link... Very nice desktop-backgrounds ! Anyway, I maybe should have kept quiet about the screenshot's definition - didn't wanna intrude or mind somebody else's business... Please accept my apologies.

Well - I guess we all agree all this Google/Opera stuff is a rather strange case...

    See you soon...

    Rgds, Crockett
