Office 365 Outage is Blocking Access to Mailboxes

If you are in Europe and you can’t access your Exchange Online services, you are not alone. Microsoft is stating that they are investigating an issue that is currently preventing its users from accessing Exchange, primarily that users are unable to access their mailboxes.

Microsoft 365 Suffers Massive Two Day Outage, Outlook and Exchange Down

The Microsoft 365 online productivity suite experienced multiple outage issues throughout the last two days, with users reporting that they couldn't access their mailboxes through multiple protocols.

Furthermore, some user reports also mentioned slow e-mail sending and receiving (with more than 3-hour delays), missing e-mails, as well as sending or receiving multiple repeated e-mails at one time.

Microsoft 365 is experiencing issues again with customers reporting on Twitter and other social media platforms that they cannot open links from emails, after the multiple day outage that started on January 24 and affected Outlook and Exchange.

Moreover, while the reports say that clicking on URLs from emails will trigger "HTTP Error 503" errors, one customer said that "Odd thing I noticed is if I take the na01. portion off the URL and ignore the SSL cert error, then it loads."
On January 29 at 7:05 AM GMT, the official Microsoft Twitter account which delivers updates on Microsoft 365 service incidents tweeted the following:

Microsoft may need to credit customers for cloud login outage

Australian enterprise users caught out by yesterday’s Microsoft cloud login outage may qualify for 25 percent or higher credits on their monthly service fees.
Noel Fairclough, a principal solutions consultant at Data#3, said in a LinkedIn post that an outage of one hour or greater put users in line for compensation.

“Microsoft has a service level agreement (SLA) of 99.9 percent per month for Office 365 services,” Fairclough said.
“I know Data#3 was impacted by this outage for approximately one hour. Assuming no outage tomorrow (31st of Jan), this puts the monthly SLA at 99.86 percent.”

“According to Microsoft’s SLA agreement documentation ... for a breach greater than 99.9 percent you are entitled to a 25 percent service credit.”

Microsoft Azure data deleted because of DNS outage

Users of Microsoft’s Azure system lost database records as part of a mass outage on Tuesday. A combination of DNS problems and automated scripts were to blame, said reports.
The deletions were automated, triggered by a script that drops TDE database tables when their corresponding keys can no longer be accessed in the Key Vault, explained Microsoft in a letter reportedly sent to customers.

Reports suggested that this DNS outage came from CenturyLink, which provides DNS services to Microsoft. The company had suffered a software defect, it had said in a statement.

This shows what can go wrong when cloud-based systems are interconnected and automated enough to allow cascading failures. A software defect at a DNS provider indirectly led to the deletion of live customer information thanks to a lack of human intervention.

Microsoft 365 customers are currently experiencing issues around the world, with users facing sign-in failures and repeated credential prompts when trying to log into their Outlook, OneNote, and OneDrive accounts.

"We’re investigating an issue in which some users may be unable to access Outlook and OneNote. Additional information can be found in the admin center under OC186848 and OL186847 or at http://status.office.com ," says a message issued by the Microsoft 365 Status Twitter account.
User reports are also pouring all over Twitter during the last hour, with many of them saying that they have been logged out of their accounts with a "MSPError=-805308370" error being displayed together with a request to sign in using the correct URL.

Update 18:11 EDT: The Microsoft 365 Service health status now says that:
We've rerouted traffic and our telemetry indicates that the service has largely recovered; however, some users may still be impacted. We're performing targeted component restarts to fully remediate the issue.
