I also have been using OTR for a while. Pidgin + OTR + GTalk = Winning Combo.

Just chime in to finish the information:

    Mac: Adium
    iOS: ChatSecure
    Android: GibberBot
    Java: Jitsi
    Windows: Pidgin
    *nix: Pidgin

There are others. Some notes are that you should always verify or compile your own binaries. Also, try to make sure there are code reviews on the version and that you run file authenticity on the binary.

AVOID SKYPE and "SSL" or "GPG" based MESSAGING.

I had problems trying to get Gibberbot to talk to ChatSecure (or it may have been ChatSecure connecting to OpenFire). iOS has IM+ as well, but it is expensive for the OTR option.
