Hi @ Wilders I have been trying to solve a problem with Chrome mouse scrolling and "jerkiness". I have tried many tweaks but the one that seems to work is reverting back to a driver issued in 28 September 2020. I downloaded this from Nvidia and installed it and a much smoother scrolling now occurrs. Apparently this is a known problem with Chrome and Nvidia. However I note that in Device Manager the driver shows up as as 27.21.14.5655 28/02/2020, whereas in Programs & Features/uninstall it shows up as:- 456.55-desktop-win10-64bit-international-dch-whql.exe 28/02/2020 It appears there is a Microsoft delivered Nvidia driver and one installed by me from the Nvidia web site. So my questions are:- 1) Why are there two different versions of the same driver? 2) Which one takes precedence? 3) Can one be uninstalled instead of duplicated? Thanks Terry
That seems about right, Device Manager and Programs and Features report them differently. It's the last five numbers shown in Device Manager that are the driver version, same as shown in apps and features. You have NVIDIA driver version 456.55. It's just the one driver, there is no duplicate. Also, did you consider updating to a more recent version? 512.15? I'm thinking about it--v. 511.65 or 30.0.15.1165 in DM.
When upating, mebbe, when installing there's an option to do "fresh" install. When update nvidia driver i always do "fresh" install during the installing phase. On linux, i always stay at nvidia compatible kernel to avoid possible crashes etc. Im using 1060 nvidia GPU.
Hi @ Plat1098 Thanks for your reply. I have actually tried the very latest version, but as I mentioned previously I am plagued by the problem of jerky mouse scrolling in Chrome which is widely mentioned in Nvidia forums for some years now. The latest version does not improve mouse scrolling for me and I am not a gamer so the driver version I am using 465.55 28/09/2022 substantially reduces the problem. Regards Terry
