Yesterday, Nvidia's social media profiles began a 21-day countdown in celebration of of the 21st anniversary of the GeForce 256, the company's first GPU, which was first announced on August 31, 1999. The company said it would "take a look back before looking forward", suggesting the announcement of new graphics cards at the end of the countdown.

Today, the company officially announced a GeForce Special Event, scheduled for September 1, where it will talk about its "latest innovations in gaming and graphics".

Naturally, this means the company is preparing to announce the next generation of GeForce GPUs, as the RTX 20 series is nearly two years old at this point. As you'd expect, the event will include a keynote speech by CEO Jensen Huang.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 will come with 24GB of GDDR6X memory, according to AIB sources speaking with Videocardz. Also reportedly disclosed was the RTX 3080's 10GB memory configuration and the lack of an RTX 3080 Ti at launch—a fact we can also attest to from our own discussions with board partners.

However, we also expect an RTX 3070 to launch in September—as suggested by MSI's recent registry on the Eurasion Economic Commission (EEC).
We can also say with confidence that our own digging suggest no RTX 3080 Ti is set to be a part of the initial 30-series lineup, as similarly suggested in the aforementioned report.

Judging from all of the leaks so far, we’re definitely expecting to hear more about the “RTX 3000” graphics cards, which likely include a high-end RTX 3090 model, along with 3080 and 3070 variants.

They’ll be based on NVIDIA’s new “Ampere” architecture, which first popped up in a massive server GPU earlier this year. You can expect all of NVIDIA’s new cards to champion plenty of power, but we’d wager they’ll lean heavily on stronger real-time ray tracing performance.

NVIDIA’s latest GPUs are officially here, after weeks of seemingly endless leaks. The company unveiled the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 today, the first consumer offerings based on its new “Ampere” architecture. They promise significant performance improvements around real-time ray tracing, and they’ll include 10GB and 8GB of GDDR6X RAM, respectively.

NVIDIA says the RTX 3080 is twice as fast as the 2080, while the 3070 is faster than the RTX 2080 Ti. We’re not sure how NVIDIA is measuring performance, but if the real-world numbers are anything close to the company’s estimates, high-end PC gaming just got a lot cheaper.

One of the things I would like you to associate with me is a skepticism of 4K gaming. I play in 4K on my PC using a 32-inch monitor that I sit a few feet away from, and that is great. But outside of that scenario, the 2160p resolution is wasted on our feeble human eyes — especially when it comes with a sacrifice to framerate and graphical effects.
And yet, I admit that Nvidia’s marketing got to me when it showed gamers playing 8K games using the new RTX 3090.

But 8K gaming is still, of course, absurd. And the lengths that Nvidia had to go to show it off is evidence of that.

The results seemed to impress everyone involved. The participants provided a lot of gasps and exclamations.
But to get that reaction, the event had those influencers sitting just feet away from an 80-inch 8K LG OLED. And it takes something that extreme to get even the minimal benefits of that resolution.

Even at 80 inches, you’d have to sit within 3 feet of the panel to notice a difference in pixel density between 4K and 8K.
RTX 3090 is the beginning of the end for resolution
We don’t really need anything higher than 4K for gaming, but we certainly don’t need 8K.
I doubt talk about resolution will disappear overnight — the terms “4K” and “8K” are too effective in marketing. But I think this is the beginning of the end for the obsession with this one metric.

Something to look forward to: Next-gen consoles are promising quite a few exciting new features, such as heavily reduced load times and reduced mesh or texture pop-in. Fortunately, PC gamers will be able to get their hands on that functionality as well -- as long as they own an Nvidia RTX GPU. The company today revealed "RTX IO," a suite of technologies that enable "rapid GPU-based loading and game asset decompression."

This technology will run on Microsoft's next-generation DirectStorage API, and it will enable "up to" 100x faster drive performance compared to traditional hard drives. Nvidia claims RTX IO can offload much of the work your CPU would ordinarily be doing onto the GPU, which boosts frame rates, speeds up load times, and paves the way for the next generation of open-world games.

"Object pop-in and stutter can be reduced, and high-quality textures can be streamed at incredible rates, so even if you’re speeding through a world, everything runs and looks great," Nvidia explains in their announcement post.

RTX IO will become available as soon as developers begin releasing RTX IO-enhanced games. However, since developer previews of DirectStorage won't be rolling out until next year, we don't expect to see any of the perks mentioned above until at least Q2 2021, if not the second half of the year.

RTX IO will function on both Turing and Ampere GPUs, so RTX 20-series owners won't be left in the dust here. We'll be keeping our eyes on RTX IO in the coming months, and we hope it lives up to the hype in the long run.

The Nvidia RTX 3080 graphics card was released at 9AM ET, and disappointment began only seconds later. All major online stores in the US are sold out, and there have been reports of brick-and-mortar stores each having as few as 10 units for sale. The end result: eBay scalpers are now trying to cash in, and very few people who want to enjoy the graphics card seem to have actually gotten their hands on a confirmed order.

The card is being listed on eBay for many hundreds of dollars — in some cases, even thousands of dollars — over its $699 sticker price.

A list here of filtered eBay listings shows many RTX 3080 cards selling for between $1,000 and as much as $2,500. Many of these are “buy-it-now” listings, and it’s not clear if the accounts are actually in possession of a card from a physical retailer or the confirmation of an online order shipping soon, so it’s hard to tell which listings are legitimate.

“What’s the point of the whole ‘Notify Me’ emails if they didn’t go out with a time for us to buy them or some system to purchase them that isn’t easily targeted by bots?” reads one of the most liked replies to Nvidia’s tweet.

This morning we saw unprecedented demand for the GeForce RTX 3080 at global retailers, including the NVIDIA online store. At 6 a.m. pacific we attempted to push the NVIDIA store live. Despite preparation, the NVIDIA store was inundated with traffic and encountered an error. We were able to resolve the issues and sales began registering normally.

To stop bots and scalpers on the NVIDIA store, we’re doing everything humanly possible, including manually reviewing orders, to get these cards in the hands of legitimate customers.

My area Micro Center sold out of rtx3080 variants in minutes. People are crazy for this. Some had already sold their pre-existing gpus and are now stuck without a graphics processor.

I shudder to think what it's going to look like when the 499USD rtx3070 cards launch October 15th.

Based on this potential mess, I opted to wait for a between-card: a Super or Ti. Hopefully this comes out Christmas-time, or early 2021. NVIDIA should have seen this coming, imo. Hopefully quality won't be sacrificed for the sake of quantity.

Nvidia launched the GeForce RTX 30 series of graphics cards last week to much fanfare and took the world by surprise with an exceptionally good pricing matrix that gave everyone hope for a substantial upgrade.
Today, the graphics giant issued a brief apology over the not-so-well-managed launch of the RTX 3080, which has led to it becoming sold out at many places and scalpers immediately offering them up for sale online at outrageous prices, some pushing into five figures territory.

Apparently, the high demand for the new graphics card resulted in a tenfold increase in traffic when compared to the launch of the RTX 2080, and most of the people who had been waiting to get their hands on an RTX 3080 have missed the pre-order window.
Nvidia confirmed reports that some people have used automated bots to grab as many cards as possible, but those orders were never sent out -- at least when it comes to the official store.

Moreover, Nvidia promises it is pumping out cards as fast as possible and increasing supply targets every week to account for the pent up demand.

Just months after the launch of the first set of GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards, Nvidia is planning to start 2021 with the bang.

The company announced on Wednesday that it will be host its “GeForce RTX: Game On” event on January 12 at 9 AM PT. The event will be hosted by the senior vice president of Nvidia GeForce, Jeff Fisher. And, according to the announcement, Nvidia will “unveil the latest innovations in gaming and graphics.”
However, seeing as it takes place right in the middle of the virtual CES 2021, it could be used to announce the next cards in the RTX 30 series lineup. One card that seems to be a lock to be officially unveiled is the RTX 3060.

The other card many expect to hear about at the Nvidia event is the RTX 3080 Ti, which is scheduled for a February 2021 launch. The 3080 Ti will include 20 GB GDDR6X as well as around 10496 CUDA Cores, and sit somewhere in between the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 in cost.

Lastly, there’s also a possibility that consumers finally see Ampere GPUs built specifically for laptop computers. When unveiled, the mobile lineup is believed to include the RTX 3080, RTX 3070, and RTX 3060 graphics cards. These new GPUs will be for the Intel Comet Lake and Tiger Lake as well as AMD’s upcoming Ryzen 5000 mobile CPUs.
