Since this is directly correlated to the astronomical rise in artificial intelligence, I thought this might be relevant to one and all. Do we sport AMD? Intel? Or like me, a new NVIDIA rtx graphics processor. But I don't know that gamers make up the bulk of NV's wealth any more, just like Windows isn't Microsoft's top priority nowadays. Check this:: It's surpassed Amazon by now and put Google out of the top three wealthiest US corporations. Don't know if this'll last but the wealth is flat-out mind-blowing. https://www.theguardian.com/technol...s-nvidia-driven-stock-markets-to-record-highs
Yes, Nvidia hit the jackpot. Their gaming GPU business is now only a small part of their total revenue. A few years ago their GPU's were used by bitcoin miners, then this whole crypto currency hype was squashed. And now the GPU's are used for AI, but AMD, Intel and ARM also want a piece of the pie. I'm guessing their stock will go to $1000 in the coming months. And the stock will also go rapidly down once competition heats up and they can't grow as fast as in the past. Just look at what happened with Tesla and Adyen (Dutch fintech stock).
"Ten years ago Nvidia as a company was worth just under $US 1 billion. Today it's worth just under $US 2000 billion ... $2 trillion." Now, that is 'capital' appreciation.
I am not sure about the purpose of this thread. Is this investing opinion thread? Or GPU opinion thread? If you really want to hear this: when it comes to GPU my laptop has Intel iGPU, because of good Linux driver, and it is not hot
The "purpose of this thread" was to show how artificial intelligence can make the uber rich even richer. NV is currently worth almost 2 trillion. First crypto now AI and its H100 gpu. I don't see what the big deal is.
Yes I know, I was only kidding. It is indeed fascinating, it's similar to how the iPhone (launched in 2006) made Apple one of the richest companies. The only difference is that Apple still sells millions of iPhones every year, but it's not clear yet if Nvidia will be able to do the same with the H100 and H200, perhaps it's only hype. I do know that companies in the financial and health care industry do believe in AI. Same goes for the cybersecurity industry of course. This week will be interesting on Wall Street because both CrowdStrike and Broadcom, both considered to be AI companies, will report results for Q4 2023, but I'm guessing they will be punished since their stock prices are way too bloated. Which probably means that Nvidia will also take a hit.
