Maybe this belongs more properly over in Ten-Fwd (and if so, feel free to move it), but it does involve overall board operation so this seemed like the logical place to start.

Anyone remember if there was something special happening then, or was this just one of those statistical flukes?

There was nothing special about that particular day and time. Also, there was not an unusual number of members online, so it was some form of guest traffic. Guest traffic includes different things. First there are the real guests, which are usually around 3-4 times the number of members that are logged in. The rest are just different kinds of bots (search engines and the like). When you see a surge like that on any forum, it most likely was just a concentrated period of bots or spiders indexing some part of the site.

Thanks, LWM -- live and learn, I never knew that search-bots got counted as "visitors".

Well whatever the reason was, I am thinking it has something to do with what person was showing online actually.

Just like today....I happen to spot Bo Derek on here, if I remember the name right.
And you know how "star-crazy" some people get.

That may be true, Nat, but I still would like to know....how can ya tell the aliens, the spiders and the bots apart?

Dog and I agree that Bid Ed is prob an alien, but I might be to, spiders are fast and I don't move fast unless I want to.......a bot? Naww, unless they have crazy bots[IMG] Is that like bots in the belfry?!

So, whose the bots, whose the spiders, and whose the aliens, we all have been talking to!! That's what I want to know!!! [IMG] [IMG]

Maybe the bots were dancing on the scroll.. :D :ninja:

Further, the fonts used in signatures should not be larger than the default forum font size, nor should the font selection be overly intrusive when viewed "in thread" (i.e. by use of, for example, extreme highlighting or color selections). Also, no form of "scrolling text" will be allowed in signatures as of April 24, 2005.
