I just got the eval version of Portexplorer and installed it. Registration went through fine.
I clicked on PE through the startup button and nothing happens,
On the tray there is something like this ">>" icon which is associated with portexplorer
When I click on that- nothing.
taskmanager shows that some times a app called sysfader comes on for a second and dissappears. does not happen everytime I click on the ps associated ">>"
I read somewhere that there are viruses tha mess with Portexplorer- which ones are they ?
    thx

Hi Ani, There are viruses that can stop certain firewalls and AVs and other security programs but not Port Explorer as far as I know.
If you are running McFee firewall & PE they do not work properly together - This is a McFee problem which they have failed to address as yet.

Sometimes programs such as NOD32 and PE have a problem but can be fixed,
so please try LSPfix. from here : http://cexx.org/lspfix.htm

Tried LSPfix. It says everything is ok nothing to fix.
Here are some other things that are happening.

    1. My taskmanager has no (blank) usernames showing for many processes on the reboot after installation of PE.
    2. The next reboot the usernames were back on all the processes.
    3. I have anvir installed and the executable file path is empty for many processes
    4. clicking on search the web link from anvir takes me to www.google.ru ?! with really funky characters on the google buttons.
    something is fishy

I am documenting all the weird things going on...
    Help.

When you installed Port Explorer, did you have all av/at down, maybe closed the internet connection and maybe also the firewall closed?
With some firewalls it's best first install Port Explorer, after the firewall.
    Which firewall are you using?

Did you scan the system for any malware for instance with TDS or an av/at program?

It sounds also like system files with those >> in stead of names and proper icons.

If all that did not solve the problem, how about a HijackThis log?
