I noticed the behavior of opening text files in Windows 11 in Notepad has changed and I like to make it more like it was before than how it is now. Let me explain what I don't like and perhaps someone knows how to change the behavior to how it used to be. See screen below:

In the example, I created a new text file and when I open that file, another text file that I opened minutes earlier also appears, I like to stop this behavior if is possible. This is annoying because when you save and Notepad asks whether you want to save changes or not, I have no idea if its asking me about changes in the document that I am on or about the one I closed earlier. When I open a text file, I prefer if only the one I open is open.

Forever I kept a text file in the desktop where I write notes, etc. The behavior of Notepad now is driving me crazy. When I write something, I have no idea anymore, if what I write is being saved or not. There used to be a dialogue that ask you if you want to keep the changes, now the dialogue is not there but comes later when you open another text file.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks Jack. Fantastic. I looked for Settings but did not see them before. You are the best.

yes, notepad improved and now save sessions, and have tabs. i enjoy this behavior on work, for private usage i use notepad++ which is set to this. Important when windows crashes or restart accidentally.
