I'd suggest checking permissions for the HKLM\Software\ESET key and making sure the current account has full access granted for the key. Also tick the appropriate checkbox in permission settings to replace permissions for all its subkeys.

System and Administrators should have full control, users should have read access. If the permissions at HKLM\Software\Eset look like that, click on the advanced button and from the next windows click the check box "Replace all existing inheritable permissions [blah blah blah]" and press okay to propogate those permissions down to all sub-keys.

maybe to run some registry repair tools prior to installation commence? Do you have same problems with other NOD32 versions (v3)? Did you try that? Do you have home or business version?
