NOD32 V3with the ESS firewall, yes you read it correct.

I uninstalled the ESS 621 in my Vista.

I installed NOD32 V3 621 using my ESS serial number.
The ESS firewall was in it.

    Uninstalled & restarted.
I made sure it was the NOD32 I was installing. It was.
This time I did not enter a serial number or password.

In both installs I got this pop up evertime I went into the program in the sys. tray.

    "Failed to read firewall configuration"

Does that firewall luv me or what, it's back.

    Hi !

Most likely some files/tracks haven't been removed properly and because of the fact ESS comes from EAV/NOD32 (a.k.a. they are compatible) , that is why you see this mutant :D

Uninstall whatever version and perform these instructions:

    1. Download fresh new version of ESET NOD32 Antivirus product
    http://www.eset.com/download
Make sure that you choose the correct version.

    2. Uninstall your current version from Control Panel
    3. Reboot the computer when prompted
    4. Delete manually these folders:

    - C:\Program files\ESET
    - C:\Users\Application Data\Roaming\Eset
    - C:\Users\Application Data\Eset

    5. Goto Start and run Windows Registry editor - regedit.exe
Delete sub keys/enties called ESET in both (example):

    - HKEY_Local_machine\Software\ESET
    - HKEY_Current_User\Software\ESET

    6. Reboot

    7. Reinstall your ESET using the file you downloaded in step1 . Use typical install.

Good on you Hitech, you are a true Gent.

That worked, however, there is an extra item I have to do on every occassion I uninstall ESS or NOD32 V3, and that is

    Search the registry for :-
    ekrn.exe and delete it.

I always find 4 entries of it.

Ok . Glad to read :thumb:

    You search for ekrn.exe ?
Where do you find it exactly ?

I am currently with EAV 3.0.621 and seaching for ekrn.exe reveals nothing . For ESET - sure , but not for ekrn or ekrn.exe

I never did check where it is in the registry, I just deleted it, however, I make images of my partitions & I'll restore the relevant image and get it for you.

May not be tonight but tomorrow for sure.

Re: NOD32 V3with the ESS firewall

Here are Registry entries in my Vista for the file that is installed in my F:\ partition with ESS update 621.
    EKRM.exe
I can't delete it untill I have removed these registry entries.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Installer/Userdata/
    /S-1-5-18/Components/F5DC69A3E25CBA648833A4CFF36AF00E/ekrm

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/ControlSet001/Services/ekrm

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/ControlSet002/Services/ekrm

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Services/ekrm

I checked that they are correct & they are, I hope that is usefull to you & I'm very pleased & glad to be of help.

I restored the images, I was contemplating uninstalling ESS & installing NOD32 and a separate firewall, but I think I'll not uninstall ESS after all.

Sorry, that's my mistake when I typed them into the post above I hit the m rather than the n, it really is :-

    EKRN.exe

    Do I feel stoopit.
I checked the paths 3 times to make sure they were correct & I went and put in an M instead of an N.

To sum up, it is an N and NOT an M

My apologies Hitech, I have just double checked & It is an N.
