I have just now posted the message quoted below on the Eset support website, at http://www.eset.com/support/contact.php,
but I am repeating the message here because some people (additional to me) might prefer a later (and much smaller in bytes but apparently not in content) UserGuide version than the one now on the Eset website at http://www.eset.com/download/home

I would attach the newer UserGuide version here, except that its pdf format isn't accepted.

    RNF ESET SUPPORT WEBSITE MESSAGE:

"I have two ESET NOD32 AV UserGuide Versions, both 37 pages:

    "REV.20090213-002; 5,150,727 bytes
    http://www.eset.com/download/home

    "REV.20090520-005; 2,458,732 bytes
Website for previously purchased products (apparently discarded because now re-routed to link given above)
    http://www.eset.com/download/registered_software.php

"In short, your website is offering the OLD, unnecessarily huge, UserGuide version instead of the newer, much smaller, version.

"The actual content of both versions appears to be identical.

"Also, the new website design uses VERY small print, when displayed on a laptop 15" UXGA screen.

"The old [website layout] setup was much better."

I also wrote to ESET regarding the problem of old user manuals on 9 July and I got an automated reply to my message, but it seems they haven't done anything about that so far.

I wrote that http://www.eset.com/download/manuals.php offered older versions of manuals for some Eset software products. For example:

    ESET NOD32 Antivirus User Guide
    http://www.eset.com/download/EAV4_User_Guide_ENU.pdf
    (revision REV.20090213-002)

ESET Remote Administrator Installation Manual and User Guide
    http://www.eset.com/download/ERA_Manual_ENU.pdf
    (revision REV.20081217-009)

On the other hand, the product download page http://www.eset.com/download/business offered newer versions of the manuals:

    http://download.eset.com/manuals/ESET_EAV4_User_Guide_ENU.pdf
    (revision REV.20090520-005)

    http://download.eset.com/manuals/ERA_Manual_ENU.pdf
    (revision REV.20090331-012)

    Hello rnfolsom,

I will check with our technical writers on REV.20090520-005. I will also ask our web development team about the font size for the updated download pages.

    Thank you,
    Richard

I also got an automated response, but it included the statement ". . . We appreciate your feedback. . . . Your message will be passed on to the appropriate department for further review."

So there's some hope that Eset's website may eventually start distributing the latest NOD32 AV 4.0 User Guide.

And moderator Rmuffler's post immediately above is encouraging.

I've just checked the version of the ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 User Guide that can be downloaded from the following ESET's web pages:
    http://www.eset.com/download/
    http://www.eset.com/download/home
    http://www.eset.com/download/business
    http://www.eset.com/download/manuals/

They all contain the following link:
    .../ESET_EAV4_UserGuide_ENU.pdf
    (REV.20090408-004)

On the other hand, there is a newer revision accessible by the following URL (see my previous post in this thread):
    .../ESET_EAV4_User_Guide_ENU.pdf
    (REV.20090520-005)

So, why do the official web pages offer an older revision of the ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 User Guide?

The multiplicity of ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 User Guides is even more of a mess than I had realized, if you consider their sizes.

Given that NOD32 AV 4.0.467 is now available, I thought the manual might have been updated, so at http://www.eset.com/download/home
I selected the Manuals link at the bottom of the page, which took me to
    http://www.eset.com/download/manuals/
which told me that the NOD32 AV 4.0 manual was 4.91 mbytes in size (which was the approximate size of a very early ESET_EAV4_User_Guide, Revision number not remembered).

    Today, 29Sep09, I downloaded ESET_EAV4_UserGuide_ENU.pdf from http://www.eset.com/download/manuals/,
and discovered it to be Rev20090408-004 with a size of 2,875,414 bytes --- much less than 4.91 mb.

Earlier, on 11Sep09, I had downloaded ESET_EAV4_User_Guide_ENU.pdf Rev20090408-004 from one of Eset's websites, and its size is only 2,532,392 bytes, definitely smaller than today's (29Sep09) download.

Oddly, all of these Rev20090408-004 versions are larger than the later Rev20090520-005 version (that you suggested at the end of your message, at http://download.eset.com/manuals/ESET_EAV4_User_Guide_ENU.pdf)
which is only 2,458,732 bytes --- today (29Sep09) and also on 25May09 when I first downloaded it from some Eset site.
    Incidentally, http://download.eset.com/manuals/
    by itself is Forbidden.

All of these versions, including all Rev20090408-004 versions and the one Rev20090520-005 version, are 37 pages in length.

Whether any of them reflect the changes in the latest NOD32 AV version 4.0.467, I know not.

P.S. As far as I know, none of these versions reflect the changes I have suggested in the "Future Changes to EAV" thread:

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1497062&postcount=220
Suggestion that the Eset AV User's Guide and help file both should make clear that Eset AV's Email component not only "supports the following extensions: DBX (Outlook Express) and EML" but also "supports MBox email files, such as those used by Mozilla Thunderbird and SeaMonkey."

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1509650&postcount=226
Suggestion that the User's Guide should adjust user guide page layouts for 100% printing on a4 and letter paper.

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1516133&postcount=227
Suggestion that the EAV4 User Guide should have a minor re-organization to fix two anomalies.

    Hello,

    the latest official version is

    http://download.eset.com/manuals/ESET_EAV4_UserGuide_ENU.pdf REV.20090408-004 2.74 MB

The REV.20090520-005 version (ESET_EAV4_User_Guide_ENU.pdf, 2.34 MB) was probably published by mistake in the past.

The only difference between these two version is that they were compiled with different compression parameters - that's why the confusion about its size. The content is identical.

Thanks for that information. I'll keep my version 20090520-005 and dump the others. I might as well use the smallest one given that it doesn't differ in content from the various 20090408-004 versions.

Why Eset has so frequently re-compiled the same content, initially reducing the User Guide size but then increasing its size, I can't imagine.

Incidentally, re my first P.S. in my preceding message, today I have installed NOD32 v4.0.467 (after uninstalling v4.0.437), and for Setup, Email client protection, ThreatSense engine parameter setup, the help file now does say that
    "Email
The program supports the following formats: DBX (Outlook Express), EML and MBOX." [The bold italics include the new, more accurate, information that now reflects NOD32 v4's actual behavior (and perhaps NOD32 v3's actual behavior also).] MBox is the email format used by Mozilla Thunderbird, and also Mozilla SeaMonkey.
