    I use these version:

True Image 9.1 Workstation build 3534
    and Universal Restore build 1247

I have to of the same systems with this Epox mainboard.

When I restore with universal restore I just stands there after the restore and first boot.

with a black screen and a flikkering cursor. Weird. on all my other systems it works.

I did a Master Boot Record clean with the tool provided by Acronis --> NO GO!
I wipped the harddisk and tried again --> NO GO!
I reset bios to default and tried again --> NO GO!
I flashed the bios with the latest firmware --> NO GO!
Tried multiple different Images --> NO GO!

Please tell me what Info you need from me to let Universal Restore be trully Universal ;-)

    Thanx in Advance

    Hello Jeremy,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Workstation Disk Backup Software.

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

As far as I can see, our support engineer Petr Asalkhanov is already working on this issue. To be more precise, he has already forwarded this issue to our Testing Team and will inform you about the result of their investigation as soon as possible. I'll post the results here as well.

    Thank you.

    Hi Jeremy,
sounds like a kernel + hal problem.
Did you use the acronis rescue media for the restore.

The Log file that I attached earlier was an image made of the system itself and then restored trough universal restored... so this image restore DID work.

Only when I restored an image made of another system it didn't boot.

The log of the failed restore is attached

I don't think Universal Restore can handle VIA chipsets, it never works for me anyway.

    hi,
i miss the "Driver for 'acpipic_up' has been successfully installed" part in your log, means the hal and kernel update.
Please update to the last build of your ati produkt or use the 9.1 build 3.718 and try restore again.
It seems that in your configuration the linux rescue Media dont execute the update task.
Unfortunately the win environment is also affected from your issue.
I think there is a reason that acronis provide updates for the ATI products.

come back later and try to help you.

    hi,
    after analysing your log files.

    first aid with 3832:

try a restore without providing any drivers, use the defaults.

    come back with your resultes.

    Good Morning Jeremy,
for the reason that no version from ati works for you, we should do the basic work.
The mustang plugins are ok. I think the new Version from ati will work very well with his plugins, thanks to mustang.

However, you have a very very special problem with your environment, maybe Software or Hardware.
And your issue is independent of the used Rescue Media (Linux/Win).

Fact is that you don’t get the required result.
    Ok, let’s do troubleshooting.

    Questions:
What language did you use in windows xp ?
Which language did you use for the resource files to build BartPE ?
Did you use additional mass storage drivers to build BartPe ?
Did you use a raid in the affected system?
Did you use a multi cpu board?
Are there other hard disk controllers plugged in your pci bus ?
Did you use c: for the windows system files, please describe your partition configuration.
What file size has the hal.dll in your restored system, you will find the file in Windows\system32. Use your BartPE cd to access the restored windows system partition.

    Information:
Universal Restore needs the htp3xx.sys and hptpro.sys please provide this driver if you need for booting.

I need a registry dump to analyze your issue.
For that i have created a zip file with pictures for information how to do a registry export from your running BartPE cd.
see the attached file in this post. download it and rename the extesion txt to zip.
Use the ramdrive to store the files. Copy the files to a network share and make a zip file. Send the zip to my mail adress or upload it with a txt extension.

There i a way to get a universal restore log file from your linux rescue media, but i cant remember the details. Perhaps the arconis support can help us to get the log for analyzing.

ok seems that it is a acpi + apic hal.

    Please do this steps:
    first:
boot the target system with bartpe.
go to the i386\system32 directory from the cd.
    copy the halacpi.dll to c:\windows\system32
    rename your hal.dll to hal.sic
    rename halacpi.dll to hal.dll
the size of your new hal.dll should be 80kb.
reboot your system and come back with the results.

    ----------------------------------------------------
only you dont get a running system!!
    Second:
If you have a halacpi.dll in dutch use this for the steps.

Ok I will try this... Here some information that I have right now:

When I use the Bartpe CD with Mustangs Plugin and your fix the is no ACPI_UP Thing in the log files.... System boots with Black screen en flikkering cursor....

When I do it from the linux boot cd... I do get the ACPI_UP thing in the logs... but also get a black screen with flikkering cursor.

    ..... weird....

    OK im narrowing it down:

    1. I looked in the Bios and found that the option "APIC" was disabled. I enabled it.
    2. Booted from Bartpe Withe Mustang Plugin and the acpi fix. Every Image that I restore now boots. Even the images from linux boot cd.

    BUT!!

I never ever see an ACPI_UP etc.. entry in my logs from BARTPE where I DO see them in the logs of the linux cd......

    So the question remains... WHYo_O

    Hello Jeremy,
    this is a good news.
    You get a running system.:thumb:

For analyzing your issue, in need the linux log file and the registry dump from your running bartpe !!!
Please post it or send it to my mail address.

At the moment i cant give you the answer why the logs are different but the results are equal.

This is a part of the help file from the mustang plugins:
This plugin was tested using BartPE 3.1.9 and XPE 1.0.4 built on Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 English version.

I Am using BARTPE 3.1.10a (latest version)

Why do you need the log file of linux (this is a pain in the ass to save) and linux works...

I will get you the registry dump ... working on it now
