Just bought DD Suite v10 and made a bootable version. My system has 4 GB of RAM, but the bootable Disk Director only reports 2 GB. If it helps, I'm running a Dell Dimension XPS Gen 2, whose BIOS reports 3.5 GB (don't know what happened to the other 500 MB). Any ideas?

This is all down to how you count bytes!

They can be counted as 1Gb = 1,000,000,000 or more properly 1,024,000,000 this accounts for the difference in BIOS and the ram you purchased.

Even today PC's still work on the old method of 1Mb reserved for the base system and then everything else is allocated in 64K chunks - though that bit is now transparent.

Having said that I have 2Gb of RAM and DD shows 2,047 which is correct - 2 * 1024 = 2,048. DD counts in computing terms wherby 0 is counted as a number so 0 -> 2047 = 2048 in reality.

So I would have expected DD to show either 3,548 or 4095.

What does Windows report, press windows + PRT SCr button at the same time. Ah Linux works things out slightly differently.
