Installation "over the top" did not go too well for me as you can see on vista. Now i have two EMETs installed although the the settings are the same(maybe imported automatically).
I had to remove the old version manually after i installed the new one.

^ Tough luck, I installed over the top in my Windows 7 Home x64, and it went smooth. I also installed over the top because a mod in the new forums for EMET said that it's safe to do.

My install went like crap. :doubt:
On XP, SP3 with .NET Framework 3.5, SP1...

DEP was shown as Application Opt Out, and when I attempted to change that via Configure System to Always On or Opt In, I ran into an "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application" error, as shown.

In addition, none of the application configuring worked, even after restarting the app. That is, I added browser, pdf viewer, email client and media player, but when I restarted those apps, they did not appear in the bottom pane as Running EMET.

Pretty much a bust for me. :(

I got it installed okay on W7 64 bit.

What I did (my usual practice) was uninstall the old version
Downloaded the new installer and scanned it with ESET (just routine)
    Installed the new EMET version

    Observation

all my old settings were still in place but I did zip to make that happen.

    Next

I want to read the user guide (pdf) to see what is what.

It's to bad others are having trouble with xp spx all I can think of is to join their support forum and see if there is a work around.

    UPDATE

Many of my 3rd party applications even Firefox 4 were NOT Emet running!

So far I have had to remove and reinstall (within EMET)

    2 IE Explorers 32 and 64 bit
    1 Firefox 4

More to come but I'm out of time now.

May wipe all off and start fresh.:doubt:

How did you know that you're not running EMET with third party applications?

By running the program and see if the process has EMET running (look under Running processes in the main screen of EMET).

Well, I installed it over and everything was really good!

I particularly use it just to control the DEP, SEHOP and ASRL. Do not place any application to it because I use Sandboxie, so do not need these specific hardening.

Just a reminder, they enable the restoration of the system when installed.

Well, on the Microsoft support forum, so far I've learned that users are not able to configure system wide DEP on Home versions of XP (hello!), but we can opt-in individual applications to DEP by using the "Configure Apps" button.

Problem is, despite what the Microsoft employee says, even that hasn't worked for me, after three different attempts.

When I added browser, pdf viewer, email client and media player via the "Configure Apps" button, they did not appear in the bottom pane as Running EMET, even when I restarted those apps.

I have now tried unsuccessfully to get EMET running on 2 different XP Home machines.

Will installing and configuring EMET negate the need to then manually change DEP and install the Microsoft Fix it 50096 to enable SEHOP?

@Escalader: No such problems fro me either.

@ExtremeGamerBB: You should really try it, because Nullpage, HeapSpray, EAF, MandatoryASLR, and BottomUpRand are only available there.
It's also compatible with more applications than Sandboxie, and can work together with SB.
