Just downloaded and installed the trial and am looking for a product to do the following, what I consider basic, things:

1 - Backup 2 partitions nightly to an externally attached USB drive, overwriting any existing backups. We will rotate between 5 USB drives, 1 for every night of the week. I don't see an overwrite option in the software - how can I do this?

2 - Encrypt the backups for security reasons. The info on the Paragon web site says it supports encryption, but I only see a password protect option when creating a backup job. Is there encryption support, if so where and what kind of encryption?

3 - I would like email notifications once the job completes indicating whether the backup was successful or not. I see the email options under the TOOLS, SETTINGS section, but am not too sure what to setup. Is it enough to check off "Backup partition or disk" to get the notification I want? Any way to test email notifications?

4 - I would like to be able to restore individual files from my partition backups. Is this possible?

I'm looking for simple, reliable, unattended operation for nightly backups.

    Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

To overwrite previous backup you should un-check 'Generate unique names' option in settings of Backup task. Then it will overwrite previous archives each time.

All Paragon backups are already encrypted with GHOST-28147-89 standard and it is 256 bit key. Password protections is advanced options above encryption.

    Yes, it is enough.
For test you can create small task for MBR+First Hard Disk track backup and check how notification appears.

    Yes, please refer to http://kb.paragon-software.com/para...atId=2124&objId=6178&statId=1665410&foLang=en

    Thanks!

I ran a couple test backups last night and like what I see so far.

However, I have one more question. When I went through the Smart Backup Wizard to create my job, I selected both entire drives in my system (including the MBR). However, when I received the notification email I noticed this parameter:

    Source:
    Hard Disk 0
    Target:
    Archive "F:/docstar_backup/img_0_240411_233953951.PBF"
    Parameters:
    volume label: No comment
    one to one copy: false
    backup MBR: false
    backup 1st track: false
    autoname files: true
    compression level: 0
    split size: 0
    encripted archive: true
    incremental: false
    dont use tempfiles: false
    sign archive: true
    burn entire disk: false

This was set to FALSE on both my drives.

If I edit my existing backup script, I don't see this option anywhere to even change.

I believe I do want to backup my MBR, any reason not to?

    Any advice would be appreciated!

The flag "backup MBR" is used to indicate separate MBR backup.

    For example if
    backup MBR: true
    backup 1st track: true
It means that only MBR and First Track are saved.

    If
    backup MBR: false
    backup 1st track: false
It means that entire HDD is backing up.

    Thanks again!

I noticed that the trial prompts you to unlock every time it runs, even if it's a scheduled backup.

Anyway to eliminate this pop-up without buying? I want to ensure the software is reliable and get at least a week or 2 of trouble free, good backups before I decide to purchase - but the pop-up kind of kills it for me.

    Thanks

Unfortunately, there is no way to disable pop-up warning about Trial version.
