new user: how do i get activation key?

I just a few minutes ago ordered and downloaded Smart Security.

I received an order confirmation email.

I also received a second email with the username and password to activate the software.

But when I read the Quick Start Guide, there is reference to entering an activation key that it said I should have received by email... but I did not receive an activation key.

Could someone let me know if I should have also received an activation key by email?

ronjor is correct, enter your username and password that you received in the email from ESET and your product will then receive the latest virus signature database updates daily.
