I've just updated to version 6.1 with no problems, but I'm not quite sure what is different from the last versiono_O

Not much from what it seems on their website and then what's new for the software. Pretty much the same lines of descriptions based on zero facts or sources at the same place, or the very same lines. I'm not sure as I'm not active with that company.

Well this is funny I installed it on my test machine and there is no sign of the Ask Toolbar!! NOD32 didn't go nuts on it also!

Can it be true that they kicked the bad Habit? We will see!

    Can anyone else confirm?

    TIA,

    TH

    Found this:
What's new in Spy Sweeper 6.1.0.100:
    · Even More Effective Against Spyware Threats
    · This new version of Webroot Spy Sweeper detects and blocks even more forms of spyware at the point of infection, ensuring that your computer is safe against the latest malware threats.

    · Enjoy Uninterrupted Games and Movies
    · Gamer Mode ensures you are not interrupted while playing online games or watching movies. With a single click, scheduled activities, alerts and updates are temporarily deferred, while shield technology continues to run in the background for ongoing protection.

    · A Global Early Response Network
    · Through the Webroot Automated Research Network (WARN), Webroot provides faster response to new and emerging threats by analyzing submissions from among the millions of Webroot users worldwide.

    · Protection for the Latest Windows Vista® PCs
    · Webroot Spy Sweeper is fully compatible with the advanced 64-bit Windows Vista Service Pack 1 operating system. It provides superior protection to the basic security features found in Windows, and will not cause conflicts with those features.

Yeah, that was what I was refering to. Don't see anything new in that list. In that case the Vista-stuff.

What's the first statement based on!?

    Hi,

after seeing this thread, I decided to give it a trial to replace counter spy. With a fresh new key, I am able to use it fully(all shields active).

My feelings are: It does not slow down anything at all, including windowxp startup, IE netsurfing, or software conflicts. As a matter of fact, its shield has since intercept some sites, giving alerts.

For those who have used its previous versions, or those who wish to sample a bit of its power, IMO it is THE time to do it.

So far so good, a good keeper.

I have no problems running version 5.5.7 on this old Windows XP computer, but when I first tried 5.8 I noticed an unacceptable slowdown. I know the 5.8build has been changed at least once, and the current 6.x version/build is not the same as the one I saw some time ago.

Do you have a fast computer ? That, and your computer setup, can make all the difference.

I've been trialling webroots internet security essentials which has spysweeper in it and its been running fantastic. Seems to run quite light and doesn't impact my startup times. This is running on XP, 2.8ghz c2d cpu with 4gb ram.

    Hi,

for those who may have more questions regarding to my observations of v 6.1

My O/S is Win XP sp3, Intel centrino duo core 2 T5500 1.66 Ghz, RAM is 1 Gb. And the comparison of v5 X (which I have used before) and this V.6X is done on this very same laptop.

I also run McAfee firewall/antivirus, ZA Force Field, Manutu, KeyScrambler personal, Zemana Antilogger for real time.

    Hi,
The slowdown you have encountered may not be directly attributed to Spy sweeper, IMO.

I notice you use DW, SBIE and Prevx Edge as real time defender. These three may already have consumed some good block of RAM, therefore , with an addition of realtime AS scanner (such as SS's shields), slow down in machine with low capacity of RAM is inevitable.

I have replaced DW and SBIE with ZAFF is solely due to the speed, and hoping to maintain the same level of security, and luckily so far so good. How effective, SS's shields ? I would think they will live up to the standard at least, if not superior to.

    Just some experiences to share.

It doesn't seem to use a whole heap of memory most of the time. It does jump from 50-100mb at times but this is the full security suite so it might be a bit heavier than the standalone spysweeper. Under normal use and even in games theres no noticeable slowdown so i'm liking this quite a bit.

I'm curious, does the latest version of the Spy Sweeper (version with or without antivirus) include protection against malicious scripts ?

For as far as I know, there is no such protection. Which is, for their +antivirus version in particular, a serious drawback.

I'v getting network error messages always when I click check for updates, after I sniff the packet, their webroot server had been sending TCP packet with Fin flag to close the connection. very bad service they are !
