according to the website, they are executing the run file from desktop? at present it is located on my sisters downloads folder. do I need to copy the run file to desktop to run the commands listed on the web page ? http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install/install/index.html as you know I know very little about Linux based systems and so the exact commands would be helpful. thank you
They are assuming that the file is copied to your Desktop. If the file is in a different directory just "cd" to the directory where the file is and and execute it with: "sh hplip-3.16.11.run"
There is no problem if it's elsewhere than the desktop. If you don't know how to change directories in a terminal, you can launch the file manager, find the folder where the run file is, right-click in that folder and select the option to open a terminal there. Et voilà!
wow it is the same command as DOS then. I will give it try. i remember yesterday I got some warning that the file could be harmful and the popup said it would not run the file.
when I went to install it said I had an older version .3 I think. any way I chose to remove and install newer. so we will see if I can print after. I was not able to print anything with the older version.
