New Opera 51 'far faster than Firefox Quantum 58' http://www.zdnet.com/article/windows-browsers-new-opera-51-far-faster-than-firefox-quantum-58/ Has anyone tried it yet?
Opera is very fast. If you use the VPN, it will slow down a little naturally. It's close between the two.
Will check it out, but the problem is that Opera lacks certain important features, like a user friendly bookmarks manager and the ability to put tabs on bottom.
I'm still not eager to dump FF due to its great sidebar which is a sole plus, but compared to the latest Opera, FF Quantum behaves like a snail.
If you don't mind, can you tell us, in which areas do you see FF v58 being slow? I am just not ready to install new browser yet.
Does Opera support importing and exporting of bookmarks as well as being able to cut and paste bookmarks in the bookmark manager yet? The last few times I tried it that was a problem.
Yes, considering China is still communist BUT with 1/4 of the world's population there is still has to be a few (out of the billions) of real people out there to do things right. Just because something comes from China does not make it bad, in fact, I bet over 70% of the things in your home comes from China. Acadia
I have one huge thing against Opera. I can't turn of the auto update. I have to go thru hoops to do that.
That's correct. But what is going to assure me that the Chinese company behind Opera will not sell my browsing history to the advertisers? So I will pass..
This also bothers me, I don't really trust them anymore. I only use it sometimes because of the VPN which makes it possible to watch certain TV shows.
Should that have been "I couldn't"? Once you've gone through the hoops and turned it off, which it seems you have, how do rate the browser?
No you can't. What I've done when I want to up grade it is go into the main folder and delete the launcher, and the the new opera folder and delete the auto update. Trust me after very update that's nonsense.
Its not faster than Quantum but its faster and lighter than Chrome. Exception is startup, its startup is slower than Chrome. But its not a big issue for me. I wish Opera wasn't taken over by Chinese company because its the best Chromium browser. No other is as good. Quantum is a big resource hog though. On a heavy site, it took over 3 GB RAM over multiple tabs. Chrome and Opera took less than 1 GB on the same site with same number of tabs.
