I'll see if I can get this up and running on 12.04.
As for 12.10, I still haven't managed to get my Nvidia properly configured.

Runs and installs via x-swat ppa on my Ubuntu 12.04 x64 desktop, my card is a low end old 8400GS and since I don't do no games, can't say whether performance has doubled but so far no issues period.

Unfortunately this is in the proprietary drivers. I would have much preferred a push to release full and clear documentation so that we'd see these improvements in the OSS versions.
