Hello Ronald 78 and welcome to Wilders. It would be an idea to read through some of the threads here first and then perhaps ask advice on how to configure your chosen security software as asking ''which is best'' is against our terms and conditions. See here https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/posting-policy-recommended-threads.180128/#post-1041384
If you treat your laptop like a toaster or refrigerator & the situation remains the same. Then your new laptop will end up like your last laptop. Nobody here can do this for you, there are no magic programs. If you want different results you'll have to learn. Welcome to Wilders.
Hello. Do you know how you got infected on your previous computer? Knowing that is IMO more important than deciding which AV you will be using next. There are many good AVs but non of them will give you 100% protection if you don't practice safe computing. If you have Windows installed, you're already protected by Windows Defender. You can also check this poll to see what other users of Windows 10 are using: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thr...alware-choice-for-windows-10-for-2016.384174/ Whichever AV you decide to use I would suggest to regularly update OS and applications, backup important data and practice safe computing.
Avast Free, choose Custom Install and Minimal Protection, that should run pretty light on that CPU. To disable Windows Defender, use this http://pastebin.com/kYCVzZPz - otherwise, it will drag it down.
Obviously you've already bought your replacement laptop, so it doesn't matter now. But, unless there is actual hardware failure, there's no need to replace a computer if it gets infected. A clean install of Windows will get rid of any malware, and make a computer run like new.
welcome aboard !!! first of all 800 MHz doesn't sound right for the cpu. that would be an 10 year old new computer lol. looks like a beefed up boost mode. "CPU: 900MHz Intel Core M3-6Y30 (dual-core, 4MB cache, 2.2GHz with Turbo Boost)" my advice is to install a hard drive back up software you can boot to from a DVD or USB stick. if you ever got a virus , you can always revert back to an older image. and it is very important you do it now before you do too much more. otherwise you can also install a program that while you are in a protected state, the virus can still work but not after reboot. all info written to your hard drive will be gone after reboot. don't go by the signature at bottom of my posts because it is overkill.
I have just backed up all my computer onto a memory stick as new so i have that to go back to. What about using more than 2 anti virus programs etc to get as much protection as possible. I have read the http://pastebin.com/kYCVzZPz link to disable windows defender but why would id o that?? Also thanks for this https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/posting-policy-recommended-threads.180128/#post-1041384 and this https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thre...alware-choice-for-windows-10-for-2016.384174/ Top guys Thanks for the reply's guys
Also What is the difference from buying the full antivirus software compared to buying the free one? I have just seen the Norton software for sale on http://www.for-sale.com/ norton-antivirus and its on like $20?? What would be the difference in the 2?
That's not a good idea, as often running more than one antivirus will lead to issues, such as a big drop in performance or even blue screens of death. Because running multiple antiviruses is not recommended, Winodws Defedner is automatically disabled when you install a third party antivirus. However, you can run something like Malwarebytes or Zemana Anti-Malware alongside an antivirus to give you better protection. Also adding VoodooShield might be a good idea as it can prevent a lot of malware from running. How did you backup your computer? Did you just backup important files or did you create a full image of your system (e.g. with AOMEI Backupper - it's free and works well.) If you create a full image, you can restore your computer to a malware free state by restoring the image, if you get infected.
Welcome to Wilders. For me the must have applications for a malware free windows system are: 1) a good imaging program. 2) sandboxie 3) common sense when navigating online (and if you have kids DNS Angel to protect them from inappropriate sites) Panagiotis
Any of the best AVs listed in https://www.av-test.org/en/ or https://www.av-comparatives.org/ will do the job. Which one? A matter of personal taste, preferences and how well they run on the system. The only way to know is to test them.
The ASUS ZenBook UX305FA is fitted with either an Intel® Core™ M 5Y10 or 5Y71 Processor. If the model of the OP has an M-5710: "Description: Clockspeed: 0.8 GHz Turbo Speed: 2.0 GHz No of Cores: 2 (2 logical cores per physical) Max TDP: 4.5 W" https://cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+M-5Y10+@+0.80GHz&id=2316 It's design philosophy is for the making of a thin laptop/book with a long battery life.
