I've thought about the ESR channel and may yet move to it. The downside seems to me that once a year you get all the last 12 months changes thrown at you in one go and that would be a bit of a shock!

Yep, it's there :) Not showing up via the internal updater yet, but perhaps later today.

here when ready - as always
    https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
anything can happen and it has happend in the past - last minute changes!

and not from the archive page - if mozilla would like it they would have it linked.

    firefox there - when ready!
and forget any other page, that might be the release candidate but NOT the final.

So are you saying that Mozilla's own public FTP server cannot be trusted for releases?

Mantra, I think you are using Sandboxie, if you are, you can use Sandboxie for testing Firefox 55. Run the installer in a sandbox, you ll able to see what works and what not and delete the sandbox afterward. What you ll see is what you ll get in your real system.

Mantra, I always wait a few days before updating Firefox but I just tested Firefox 55 in a sandbox. You are going to see something like this for your addons, but they ll still work just fine. At least for now, 57 is when some will die. For me, CTR is the one that for sure is going to be dead.

For security, Sandboxie doesn't allow the update via Help>About Firefox, remember, you need to download the installer and run it via right click, choose the sandbox and go from there. Test and delete. :)

    Updated to FF 55.

Yikes, I have many extensions (more than I need, and not good from a security point of view I know), but ALL of them are LEGACY except my password manager (Roboform), Privacy Badger, and Evernote Web Clipper, which I don't really use anymore. Not even uBlock Origin.

If this doesn't change signifcantly before FF 57 in November, I really can't see myself staying with Firefox. By some accounts, there are over 2000 WE-compatible extensions on AMO, but I obviously don't use any of them. More customisation will be available through Chrome (meh), or Vivaldi ...

uBlockO (and uMatrix) should work with FF57 :)
But there is still some time (Nov 2017)

Could be, but still shows as legacy.

I could 'downgrade' to ESR 52.3.0 (I have a pre-55 profile backup), but I think that just delays the WE issues to mid-2018.

Nice @Victek. Thanks for that link, very useful.

I'm sure @gorhill will upgrade uBlockO soon.

Edit: I see that Chrome Store Foxified add-on is also legacy; hopefully it will work post-57.
