So setting this to True should stop the VPN promotion tab?
That is what I presume. I suppose it's worth the try.
Strangely, I haven't found any documentation on that setting.
OK thanks. I'm guessing Mozilla don't want people to know you can switch the promotion off lol.
I found it documented here:
"browser.contentblocking.report.hide_vpn_banner", true is used twice,
one time with this description:
"VPN banner only shows on the first visit, flip a pref so it does not show again."
Hope so. It is getting a little annoying.
If I get it again I'm going to change the about:config preferences and see if that does it.
The promotion no longer appeared on screen.
There are also these two:
(applied some magic to get the legacy 'about:config' back )
Hopefully I won't get it again.
I think you are doing something wrong.
Open "about:config" and write "promo" then make an image and insert it in the forum.
I don't know if Daveski17 made any about:config settings, yet.
If I'm not mistaken, regarding the Mozilla VPN promo, the following about:config settings were mentioned:
browser.contentblocking.report.hide_vpn_banner --> true
browser.contentblocking.report.vpn-promo.url --> empty value
browser.contentblocking.report.vpn.enabled --> false
browser.contentblocking.report.vpn.url --> empty value
browser.privatebrowsing.vpnpromourl --> empty value
I don't know if any of those is a silver bullet (first or third one?), making the other settings redundant.
There is also this setting, "Only show vpn card to certain regions."
I think some of us are not in any of those regions, but Daveski17 is.
Perhaps editing that value may help, removing your region from that string.
This is all I have and I get no promotional pages at all. Running FF 94.0.2
What if you search for VPN? Any non-default settings there?
I haven't made any config changes yet. The screenshot was of my iMac and I hadn't actually turned it on for a couple of days as I'd been using my laptops. Thanks for all the ideas though. I shall definitely look into these.
I think Mozilla are doing something wrong.
I guess this means none exist?
Correct. No modified preferences.
you might want to try this Firefox hardening guide:
Apply the following settings:
Decline location access
Disable telemetry and error reporting
Under about:config, apply all suggestions for the following:
Disable telemetry [L1]
Disable Pocket [L1]
Disable prefetching [L1]
Disable geolocation support [L2]
Disable notification support [L2]
Disable WebRTC [L2]
Resist browser fingerprinting [L3]
Disable referrer headers [L3]
Change cookie behaviors [L3]
In my post #3965 I mention none of those promotional pages appear for me in Firefox latest running MX-19. Well I just installed MX-21 on a pendrive, setup Firefox except for the hardening settings from the guide, the promotional page appeared upon launching, so after I applied those settings the same as I did in FF on MX-19, the nonsense no longer occurs.
Thanks. I may do that eventually.
I took this and added it to my user.js, I don't use Private Browsing much, but I am now to play around with it, no VPN promos so far.
// Disable VPN promo
// Disable VPN promo
those, who use "fission.autostart" > true should delete this entry in prefs, it could cause misbehave on websites.
fission is although active, word.
Thank you, Brummelchen.
Where did you find that information?
I noticed the Project Fission page was modified on 1 December 2021. The earlier Known Issues are no longer mentioned, and under Enabling Fission, it says "Fission is still in active development, and can only be enabled in Firefox Nightly."
Do I understand correctly, fission.autostart -> true is no longer used for Firefox beta and release version, but only for nightly?
