    Firefox 83 search with Bookmarks, Tabs and History.png

    I don't like those three new buttons to search Bookmarks, Tabs and History.
    However, I haven't found an option to disable those new buttons.
    If anyone of you found a way to disable those three new search with Bookmarks, Tabs and History buttons, that would be very welcome.

    I found something that helps, for the moment,
    in Mozilla Support https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1314230#answer-1368822
    and source https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/jvphu5/firefox_830_release_notes/gcmvb02/
    However, as moderator cor-el replied in the Mozilla Support thread:

    Hi Stupendous Man. I get rid of the Blue bar, the Mega bar, and all buttons by customizing my UI with userchrome css. When I use the URL bar for searching, I see nothing but what I write in the bar. If you like to do that, I can copy and paste here the code I am using for that.

    To get rid of only the new buttons, I just tested and you can get rid of them by unticking all Search buttons in Options>Search>Search shortcuts. Despite doing that, Google still works. Even if I only leave one button ticked (Google, my search engine), the rest of buttons go away. So, perhaps you can try just leaving Start´page ticked. Maybe doing that gives you what you want.

    I also wish there was. I would use it constantly.

    I have some pinned tabs, and everything to the right of that I close, repeatedly.

    Hi Bo,
    Thank you very much.
    My apologies for my late reply, I was away for some days.

    I don't mind the blue bar, or even the mega bar, nor the buttons for the three search engines that I use (mostly Startpage, sometimes DuckDuckGo, and only once in a while Google). I only dislike the three new buttons in Firefox 83 to search Bookmarks, Tabs and History.
    I don't know if userchrome css can only hide those three new buttons. (Also start searches like before, with just 1 click, is welcome.)

    Regarding the search buttons in Preferences>Search>Search shortcuts, I tested disabling DuckDuckGo and Google, only keeping Startpage, but I need those DuckDuckGo and Google buttons, so I re-enabled those.

    In addition to my previous reply -

    Do you, or someone else, know if there is a userChrome.css element available that does only that what I need:
    hide the Firefox 83 new Bookmarks/ Tabs/ History search buttons.
    (temporarily set with about:config browser.urlbar.update2.localOneOffs --> false)

    And additionally, a userChrome.css element that lets you start searches like before, with just 1 click.
    (temporarily set with about:config browser.urlbar.update2.oneOffsRefresh --> false)

    Hi Stupendous Man. I haven't forgotten you :). Yesterday I spent some time checking policies for customizing Firefox that deal with Search. Unfortunately, when I tested this policies in my system, they didn't give the result you want. Using a policies.json file, in addition to userChrome.css, is another way for customizing Firefox. I am looking. If I find something that can get rid of those 3 buttons and leave everything else the same, I ll post it here.

    Stupendous, I just checked the about:config setting that you found (browser.urlbar.update2.localOneOffs --> false), and indeed, it does gives what you want. I think you should use that setting and forget about it.

    I think the problem you are having with that setting is due to being termed as "temporarily" by the moderator from support.mozilla. In other words, some time in the future, it is likely it won't work anymore, and that bothers you.

    Perhaps you don't know, but that's also the case with userChrome.css or policies. Whatever customization we are using now, is just a matter of time, when Mozilla does away with them, and we need to modify the code, or find totally new code, etc. This customizations only work temporarily. None is forever. So, if there is css code or a policy available that only gets rid of this 3 buttons, sooner or later (as with the about:config setting) it wont work anymore, and you would have to find something new, or new code, or modify the existing code. So, in my opinion, don't let the term temporary bother you, I think you should use the about:config setting:

    Thank you very much, Bo.
    For now, I will use the about:config settings for browser.urlbar.update2.localOneOffs and browser.urlbar.update2.oneOffsRefresh, and I'll try to stop worrying about later. :)
