Thanks what are the changes? I have only just started using this. Do you know if it creates read-only images?

I'll work on getting the changelog. Also, be aware that most imaging programs create read-only images. What would be the point in allowing the user to damage created images? As a work-around, you can mount your images then add anything you want to it and re-image that mounted data and everything will work fine.

Do not use build 1.40.0.14776. I'm told that there is a bug that prevents restoring during reboot. There build 1.4.0.14825 available that fixes that issue. There are no new features are added, the only difference to previous versions is that the length of the file names during the scheduled
    restore can be longer.

I have a problem with restoring.
My back up file is restored twice.
1st it restore the same file then it shows the same file as differential image and restore again.
    But no problem so far.o_O

Yet a newer build (v1.40.0.14825) dated May 10, 2010 is now available for download.

I can only presume these May builds are bug-fixes as Tom apparently doesn't believe it's necessary to publish a change-log. :doubt:

v1.40.0.14964 is now available for download. As usual, no change-log is provided. :(

Nate seems to be able to get that info, so perhaps he will let us know.

All these recent builds deal with one issue; naming properties and password issue and how the automatic restore deals with them. Although I don't know anything specific (yet) about this build I would assume it is more of the same, especially because the previous build had issue with auto-reboot and passwords.

Drive Snapshot 1.40.0.15162 (dated Aug. 7, 2010) is now available for download.

As is usually the case, Tom didn't post a change-log (at least I can't find it).

Creates a hot image as normal but can boot into dos from windows for a restore on it's own merits.

Hmmm, it better be, because it's vital if a operating system is been jeopardized beit virus or whatever, a disk, or for that matter, even an external drive can overwrite all with SUPERIOR restorability 100%.

In my book, DS is been and continues to be the High Chief & Master Restore Leader of them all!

    Hi

Anyone able to give me a blow by blow account of making a Boot CD for Drive Snapshot.

I have seen the info on the DS website, but I don't understand it.

    I am using Windows 7 64bit

    Thanks

    Terry

    Terry,

It doesn't get much more straight-forward than UBCD4Win. If you wish you can place the DS executable (snapshot.exe) on the UBCD4Win disc and run it from there, but that's not even necessary! Snapshot.exe is truly portable, so I think it's a good idea to place a copy on the same external drive where you store your DS backup-images. Then once you have booted up with UBCD4Win, it's a simple matter of navigating to your external drive and running snapshot.exe.... ;)

    Hi

    Not that simple.

The exposition ignores the issue of Drive Snapshot and concentrates on producing the UBCD image. I am fine with that, its drive snapshot thats the problem.

With UBCD, it requires a Drive Snapshot .CAB file as an AddOn. Where do you get the CAB file from (including the .inf file)

    Thanks

    Terry
