Long time user here, I regularly image and restore, but now i bought a bigger SSD and want to clone.
I forgot how to do this properly with DS.
Anyone care to help me out ?

Simply restoring the image onto the new SSD doesn't work ?

When you image all partitions then restore them to the new SSD it won't work ? I must indicate I don't remember to have done such a procedure myself, for cloning a HDD to a SSD. I have used other tools (HD Clone and AOMEI Backupper AFAIK).

I downloaded the latest version, it has a new button on it called "restore complete disk from images
I made an image with this and restored it I think successfully, as soon as I got some time I'll disconnect all my other drives and see if the new SSD runs okay.
I'll let you know of course
    EDIT:
I disonnected the old ssd, connected the new one,and windows started fine.
All i had to do was enlarge the partition; DS doesnt do this automatically .

There is one thing I do not understand: the Drive Snapshot site at no place is stated that a new version comes out regularly.

Or does it go to download new builds?

A small question: Do any of you use a WinPe to restore with Drive Snapshot? If so, you've never had any problems?

What I've done is boot to my Macrium recovery USB which is WinPe then go to it's file manager and run DS from there. Works great.

I couldn't find any place on the site where it notes a new version has been released... at least regularly.
The "What's New" page http://www.drivesnapshot.de/en/news.htm is still showing
I've had no problems at all using WinPE boot media to run Drive Snapshot. Just have to get to a command prompt

    I personally use -

    Code:
    for %%f in (C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S) do if exist %%f:\Images\ set SOURCE=%%f:
    for %%f in (C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S) do if exist %%f:\Windows\System32\ set DESTINATION=%%f:
    SNAPSHOT64 %SOURCE%\Images\OS-Partition.sna %DESTINATION% -W
    wpeutil shutdown
To boot PE, restore OS partition then turn off the computer and I've never had a single problem whatsoever. on any computers.....Same with the other way (booting PE, image OS partition, turn off computer).

    Gaddster,

Nice batch file. I like automation. Does the batch file run automatically or do you need to manually run it?

The PE boots up, creates the image then shutsdown computer without any user intervention (same with the restore PE) as I wanted it to be fully automatic.

I originally automated with Symantec Ghost but due to its slow speeds in the new versions, I chose Drive Snapshot.

Wow, he is really been rolling out the releases lately. Thanks for the heads up to yet another updated version.

It's confidence at the highest level to sport a pair of quality image backup and restore apps of this caliber.

For this user it happens to sit very well with backups from both Macrium + DriveSnapshot.

Just be aware it may not be any new features or fixes, just an update of the trial exploration date. But yep it is quality. Especially with the new in windows restore

    Gotta love that though.

Can't imagine why it took him so long to make that happen but at least it's done now.

Actually as cool as the new windows restore is it still take the same time as using the Macruim recovery environment. Both work but almost double the restore time. For grins I tried the tip on malware bytes downloading and making the new win10se RE. by creating the RE. Added DS exe to the USB stick and ran DS from that. DS becamse the fastest restore other then MR

    Pete,

When you mention DS' "new Windows restore" are you referring to Restore the Entire Disk from Images?

Also, would you please provide a link for the new Win10seRE download?

    Hi Wendi

Yes, and doing it from within windows. Works great, but for me is very slow 30 minutes compared to 17 for the other full image restores

    Here is the link -https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewdownload/255-winpese-x64/-

    1. Download the ISO from the link
    2. I put it on a bootable USB drive
    3. Then copy the snapshot64 exe to that USB drive
    4. Booting the usb it is really a cool winpe10 window.
    5. The run DS from the exe on the Winpe drive
    6. Do the regular windows restore (full disk image) only it won't need to reboot

My restore time was 14 minutes. Superb.

    Pete

Thanks Pete - I wouldn't have thought running a 'cold' DS restore from your WinPE10 UFD would be twice as fast as running a 'hot' DS restore from the HDD. If I understood your test it demonstrates how much faster Windows can run the same program (at least Snapshot) than can DOS! Although the WinPE10 bootup time surely cuts into that time advantage (somewhat).

Yes, and this is a case where win10 is faster then it's predecessors. Give it a try and see how it works for you.
