I was wondering, even if you block a contact on your msn messenger, can they still get your ip address from netstat?

Not unless you engage p2p with them. Almost all of the popular Messengers now handle the simple IM'ing of a contact by routing the text sent through their own servers (so no p2p connections). If a contact on your friends list requests a p2p connection, for file share (picture share, music files, etc) ... you have gone p2p with them - this reveals your IP. Basically: DON'T file share with strangers.

If someone is seeking your IP badly enough they may even try and trick you by adding under another identity and trick you into p2p. Remember that.
