I'm running Vista Ultimate and NOD32 3.0.642 AV. I am behind a router.

Is it worth running Defender and Windows Firewall too?

Will they provide any further recommended protection for the additional resources they consume?

Firewall is the most important security program on a Windows system. Defender you can throw away.

    I say keep them.

Defender is actually pretty underrated - I won't speak for its cleaning abilities because I have no knowledge of them, but it has rather decent detection rates in my experience. Microsoft has the infection statistics and data of Windows PCs all over the globe at their disposal through Defender and their Malicious Software Removal Tool, and detection for widespread ad/spyware like Zlob, rogue antispywares, Storm etc are added promptly from what I can see.

    FW is needed.

    But Windows Defender is useless.

AV + Windows firewall + router should suffice.

you dont need the windozer firewall enabled, if you have enabled your router built in firewall
and yes windozer defenant is overrated, it works fine, but it lost its touch when microsoft took over
