    What are you all using?

K9 recently crapped out again on my new network and is blocking every web page known to man. So I need something new that has good blocking rates (around k9 good) and can work in tandem with avast's! network shield.

So far i've got Norton DNS back on my system but I just don't think it blocks quite enough for my tastes :(

i have recently been researching web filters as i need one for a new family PC. the one i chose in the end was panda cloud and its inbuilt web filter/parental controls (no sign up needed) but as you already have an AV i guess you are looking for a standalone one.

Qustodio is a good one which is orientated towards monitoring but you can ignore the monitoring aspects as the web filter is top notch.

FortiClient used to be my first choice as their filter is the best i have come across (enterprise filter) but you can no longer install the web filter without installing the AV so thats a bummer.

edit- the above post is assuming you need a web filter for more than just blocking malware sites, otherwise there are plenty of tools available

I see no reason to use a separate web filter when avast free is installed on your system.

The avast web shield should be adequate protection and if you add more then you run the risk of conflicts and slow browsing.

I have installed Bitdefender's TrafficLight extension in my browsers. It blocked some malicious urls that my AVG and Panda Cloud didn't,so it's a must for me.Maybe you wanna give it a try?

Did you post in the right thread? :) If I read about the right squid then it's not what the OP is looking for afaik.

What am I using? Oh just 10 programs that filter the web one way or another. No, I don't have any problems viewing most non-malicious websites. You're welcome to check out my signature.

My personal recommendation would not be TrafficLight or WOT, unless you can handle false positives. In fact, what you have is already enough.

As for myself, I'm just a security enthusiast who has risky browsing behaviour and goes through a lot of unknown software for PBFSLW.

I like Forticlients filter but it has too many miscategorized sites. Its just my preference but its hard for me to trust reputation based filters since they are simply a collection of humans opinions about sites. What has worked well for my household is using OpenDNS to block categories of sites that I don't want any access to from my network and then use Trafficlight for the local web filter. With those two layers I have yet to see anyone on my network actually make it to a malicious or unapproved site.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. Lol jk!

Forticlient has the top notch web filter in the market, probably only 2nd to K9 which blocks everything.

Love me mine K9 filter. It's too bad the op's K9 pooped out on him. Did you try updating it or reinstalling?

Edit: I did have K9 blocking everything when I had changed networks once. I reinstalled with the new network and it started working again.

You just have to set the password and she can allow things to go through. It takes a little config at times but it's worth it in the long run.

Yeah sorry I was "slow" yesterday, since a couple months ago he used the same PBFSLW and I was like huh, then I looked at his sig and the letters matched, but yesterday my brain didn't remember that :D
