Did you say you might be able to restore some registry keys you had deleted?

i did it, then rebooted, but it's still the same no dependencies. i think im going to spend the next week writting a - how to secure XP guide after a fresh install :) i need to reinstall every 4 months or so anyway from the amount of downloading i do. there's one last thing though, ive never done a system file checker, is it less aggressive then a repair install, because i want to try it. thanks

Much less aggressive, but it does not repair the registry.

I have never had to use the restore function, but I back up my registry every day using ERUNT.

thanks Ron, but those links are where i started, i dont mind doing a reinstall, with all the downloading i do it messes up my registry and, with each new install, i have a better understanding of which programs i really need. i want to try and install XP on the other partiton i did the other day too. it will give me abit of time to try some things out too.

ive used ERUNT before, but i dont use it anymore, mainly because i dont think it will ever save me from the things which always cause me to do a reinstall. if id made backups, the one id need would probably be too old to use now, or, more likely, i would have deleted it.

if anything comes up i'll try it, but i'm going to think about a reinstall now.thanks for all the help :)

Sorry about the repeat links. Good luck with the reinstall.
