My Mcafee just about kicked the bucket.

    What is a good free anti virus software that can block and scan for them?

    antivir classic you can disable the notifier. antivirus shield powered by kaspersky.

    Notifier CANNOT be disabled inside program itself. You need to hack it with some 3rd party tool.

    well not hack it but change secuirty polices dont put in in a bad way and put someone off a perfectly good free av

    Avast or Antivir. Either one is nice (for free).

    AVG free is probably not good enough, unless you use Sandboxie or something.

    It's nice but a little bloated on your system, might wanna try an older version of it.

    it keeps saying when i turn the computer on that the active shield is corrupted or didn't install correctly.

    Note my set ups below. They are all working well together. My AOL AVS replaced my McAfee Av.

    I slightly perfer Antivir Classic. Notifier does not bother me just click o. k. no harm done. Never tried Avast. ;)
