    hi

i have a multipurpose printer/scanner connected to my XP SP3 Pro.

    Here's how it's setup:

    1) On the printer, i set it so that all my scanned documents will be output to the shared folder.
    2) I created an empty folder. I shared this folder out by addding the printer ID.

Now, ESS' firewall blocked the printer from writing any files to the shared folder.

How/where do i set it so that the printer can output scanned doc to the shared folder?

    thanks!

    hi WayneP, no joy.

Scanning from the machine doesn't output the PDF into my shared folder.:(

    Hi thylacine,

What changes did you make to allow the traffic and is anything mentioned in the firewall log regarding it being disallowed?

hi BFG, i just followed the kb article provided by WayneP above.

everything is fine though, outgoing is ok. but incoming from the printer-scanner is blocked.

    log doesn't show anything.

i'm on corporate network, not sure if that's the cause. But printing is ok though.

    thx!

ok, an update ... i noticed the printer's ip is not within the subnet of the workstation. Hence, it's being blocked.

What i did was addding the printer's ip into Trusted Zone.

What buffles me: IDS/Advance Settings (Allowed Service) doesn't work as Trusted Zone take precedence of it. That means if the specific IP is OUTSIDE of Trusted Zone but allowed in IDS/Advance Settings, it will be blocked.
