I thought once Windows 8 Pro came out the schedular was going to be put back in in Windows Defender (which is acutally MSE). Well it is not there.
Now this is a real pain because it has to be scheduled in Task Schedular
Most normal users have no idea how to schedule this.
Why could not MS put the schedular back in?

1/. I assume you mean the scheduler for on-demand scans.
2/. If there is no default scan, "most normal users" will do without. Is that a problem?

what I want to know is does it even do any kind of scan after each update. anyone know?

does it update everyday? I know MSE before each scan it would update.

It does scheduled scans when the computer is idle.

MSE is the worst protection you get on a PC anyway! who needs it to schedule anything? just uninstall that useless thing

MSE is designed to be simple ... too simple ? Yes. "Install and forget it (also the protection :D) .... Relying on signs ...

Here are a list of tweaks for Windows Defender in 8. The ones for scans and more frequent updates works very well.
