I am just thinking that MS might be going to make a big mistake by not launching a 7 inch version of its Surface tablet. Even no other vendor has so far shown any such plan. iPad mini is going to be released in Oct while there are already many 7 inch android tabs like Nexus 7, Galaxy , MediaPad 7 , Kindle fire, Barnes n Nook etc.

    What do you think?

I think they will eventually. Otherwise they will be shooting themselves in the foot. But then again, MS is known for shooting itself in the foot by not releasing hardware internationally, etc...

The Surface isn't meant to be the jack of all trades, you're not going to find a surface for every use-case. OEM's exist for a reason.

Actually Surface is suppose to be the jack of all trades. It suppose to be the tablet, the laptop and the pc.

And indeed Surface seems to be much more pleasant aesthetically than OEM products.

Uhm no it's not supposed to be a "PC", it's a hybrid laptop/tablet, that's it. That doesn't suddenly classify it as a jack of all trades, does it have a resizable screen or something? :D

I would choose Nexus over Surface any day. And Galaxy over all of them any day.:D

What existing windows desktop software would work on a 7in screen with a touch screen ?
Even on a 10 inch screen they had to make adjustments for Office to work on a 10in screen with touch interface and it is still not perfect, but on a 7in screen it would be terrible.

And currently Android has a far better choice of apps than Win8 not-Metro apps.

IMHO a 7in Win8 tablet would be too compromised and too far behind Android and Ipad (if Apple launch their rumoured 7in tablet) which have established eco systems (and can't rely on the legacy desktop app market for reasons I mentioned above).

    Cheers, Nick
