    Interestingly, the Help/About says simply 3.5 ... no mention at all of RC1 ... :)

    That's odd. The page listed the RC1 earlier. o_O

    I downloaded one version from the download page, and one from the FTP site. The hash was the same.

    Edit: You can update from the browser at this time.

    I've been using RC1 for a day or 2 now...Running smoothly, but really no 'noticeable' changes :)

    I've been using Firefox 3.5 RC1 for about 4 days now. It was released on the 12th. Running very smooth and I like the new icons.

    Later...

    First thing I noticed is the new icon.

    Actually, they've been 'candidates of candidates' up until this point. At the present time, the first *official* 3.5 RC is not yet out. It is, however, expected to be released today as Mike Beltzner explained in a post on the mozilla.dev.planning group:

    I wouldn't worry too much about the build reference versions as I've published them above in this note. Version numbering here gets confusing, really.

    On June 19th, we hope to release (on our website, as a full download) a release candidate. Right now that would be the rc2build2 version, as it's the latest thing we have. So, in other words:

    June 16th: Firefox 3.5 beta users get updated to an early release candidate (rc1build2)
    June 19th: Firefox 3.5 beta users get updated to the official release candidate, which is also put up for direct download (right now this would be rc2build2, but that may yet change!)
    end of June: target ship date for Firefox 3.5

    I was on Firefox 3.5b4 when it told me of an update, which I did and it became Firefox 3.5b99. Then it told me of another update, which I installed.

    Prior to that the Help/About said 3.5b4, then 3.5b99, now it says simply 3.5. I have not (yet) had a second rc update, although I see there is one I could manually download.

    Both of those are simply builds of the official (yet to be officially released) RC1 - they are/were nothing more than RC1 candidates.

    The sequence of posting was:

    * RC1 build1
    * RC1 build2
    * RC2 build1
    * RC2 build2

    NONE of the foregoing are the official RC1, although RC2build2 has the best chance of becoming the official RC1. The reason there was no RC1 build3 was due to issues with version numbering. Otherwise, we wouldn't even be seeing anything labeled "RC2" at this point.

    Regardless, if you grab an add-on, like Nightly Tester Tools Lite, and check the build ID, you have the LATEST if it's 20090616224221.

    Is it lighter than 3.0 or what?

    Is there a way to "upgrade" to 3.5 from 3.0 while keeping all extensions and configurations? o_O

    3.5 rc2 will install to the Mozilla Firefox folder in Program Files. Now all your favorite extensions being compatible with 3.5rc2?...Well, that's a different story. I only use two extensions...NoScript and Permit Cookies. Luckily both were compatible.

    BTW, it's much faster than 3.0.11.

    Later...

    How close to the end of June? I ask with 5 days left in June. :)

    You may have just provided a textbook example of a rhetorical question, inadvertantly or not.

    If you're a software manufacturer, that's almost always a bad idea.

    I am actually somewhat surprised that there have been as many release candidates as there have been. I have been using 3.5 as my primary browser since beta 4.
