Great idea but I think the price is going to have to come way down for it to be successful with the general consumer. It is not expensive, but it is an extra expense few, I feel, will deem necessary - especially if it involves yet another recurring bill/subscription plan. 70g (2.5oz) seems light but hikers and cyclist, for example, count every gram. And I wonder if that weight includes the battery? I wonder too what cross-country skiers and hunters think about it? What Motorola needs to do, IMO, is shrink it down to one small chip that can easily be integrated into upcoming smartphones with the service included (or for a very small extra fee) in our monthly subscription plans.
@Bill_Bright - the article referenced above already states availability in newly release smartphones from both Motorola & Bullitt, don't know their price, but if they just add-on the bundle service cost (@$50) when needed, it would be great... especially if you could subscribe on a monthly basis when needed. The device's battery is non-removable/replaceable so I'm sure the weight of it is included in the basic spec.
But neither Motorola nor Bullitt are major players on the global cell phone market. Not even close. Frankly, I never heard of Bullitt before.
