Well, you could always use the free version of avast! if it suits you and you don't want to pay. I'd wager that from some of the tests I've seen, in addition to frequent checking of jotti's scanner, mks_2005 has stronger detection. But remember, detection is only one (important) part of the picture.

I don't think I was getting through to you, so I'll just say: MKS_2005

    larouse,

I am not one to think I know what anyone needs beyond the basics. However, here is an on-demand scanner to be used with a primary AV that uses the Kaspersky engine ( I hope I said that right) is free, and effective when you get it set up properly. Here is the download site.
eScan AntiVirus ToolKit Utility Ver (4.4.7)

I had a lot of trouble understanding how to set it up, but it is actually simple and the last couple of pages of this thread give the correct method. Use the bases folder and all will be well.

Used inconjunction with either of the AVs you mentioned it would give good protection. I am using it on two computers. One is W98 and Avast free.
the other is W XP SP2 Home edition, and Bit Defender 8.0

    Best,
    Jerry
