    I have Win 7 64bit 8gig ram.

I have C drive (local disk) D drive (recovery) and E drive (HP Tools) These are as they were when machine was bought. Disk Management shows these plus 199MB partition called system

No issues with machine since new. Can open system restore without error messages although I have never used it.

I do make backups using Windows built in imaging.

I have looked around on Google for other reports of two C drives showing, one listed as missing under System Protection.

Some come with a sys restore error which I don't seem to have, and others seem to have sorted it by turning off monitoring.

Have any other members had this?

I think I had the same issue on a Dell laptop which I resolved by turning off/on monitoring.

I turned off protection and then turned it back on. Extra C is gone now.
