If you learned about operating systems in the late '80s and early '90s, you knew MINIX as Andrew S Tanenbaum's educational Unix-like operating system. It was used to teach operating system principles. Today, it's best known as the OS that inspired Linus Torvalds to create Linux.

So, what's it doing in Intel chips? A lot. These processors are running a closed-source variation of the open-source MINIX 3. We don't know exactly what version or how it's been modified since we don't have the source code. We do know that with it there:

    • Neither Linux nor any other operating system have final control of the x86 platform https://schd.ws/hosted_files/osseu17/84/Replace%20UEFI%20with%20Linux.pdf
    • Between the operating system and the hardware are at least 2 ½ OS kernels (MINIX and UEFI)
    • These are proprietary and (perhaps not surprisingly) exploit-friendly
    • And the exploits can persist, i.e. be written to FLASH, and you can't fix that'

And so it goes on and on and on. There will be no end to this, but who believes that?

It is an utter disgrace. The tech industry as a whole is corrupt and rotten to the core and infested with the mentality of petty criminals and make no mistake about it, these corporate execs in their suits and ties that drive to work in their nice cars thrive on lies, their modus operandi is deceit and they would be in prison today had they not been born into the lifestyle they were, because had life dealt them a different hand, these exact same people are the ones that would steal your grandmas handbag in the street or break into your house when you are out and steal your TV or make meth labs and sell it to naive teenagers and anyone who has any semblance of decency or morality should be thoroughly disgusted with all of them.

No one needs TV. I say it how it is. The TV doesn't.

Put some alternate ambition to work. Cram a laptop with all your favorite movies and tie HDMI into your set, enjoy distraction-interruption free programming of your own choosing and tell pay sat and cable to get lost and keep their brainwashing garbage to other suckers willing to pad the pockets of their puppet masters.

I grew up in the 1960's and every since TV went digital its all downhill ever since. So long service provider TV and hello to life again with no interruptions or stupid lame assaults of bombarding the time slots with ignorant commercials that feed the insane.

That's what I did and it's never been better.

I grew up in the 80's and I record what I feel I might want to watch and zap all ads if and when I do watch it. The only 'live' TV I watch is the NEWS or sport. I do watch a live YouTube stream sometimes too.

... Anyway, that's off topic here.

Think about it. TV gives you no right of reply. You by and large sit there assimilating someone elses ideas. Even if the lies crossed the line, you barely get up to turn the knob OFF. (yes I'm talking before remote controls, which by the time they came out, the crayfish was already 1/2 cooked)) It just feeds you with insidious lies propaganda and tripe. It's one of the worst abominations our eyes can look at. Garbage in garbage out. Don't even get me started on STUPID ads. My only regret is I didn't do to analog TV what I did to digital. Ditch it right from the get go.
