Is Windows Hello really that popular?
I have old, cheap laptop that do not have camera with iris scan support, fingerprint scanner etc.
Does new desktop systems have it? Can you connect it via USB cable or it must be built into ATX motherboard and desktop case?

I've also never used it and have no plans to do so.

Well, if there would be some open-source Gnu/Linux software replacement and I could enable my hardware to do so by buying some cheap peripheral device then I might use it.

I also don't see the point of Windows Hello, at least not for websites. I think passwords should not be abandoned, but it should always be combined with 2FA. So I rather use a system like Intel Online Connect, this should be able to work on desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones. The 2FA check is being performed by the CPU. Of course this means that you can only sign into your accounts on registered devices. If you want to use a non-registered device then a biometric solution + password may be the best option.

I'll settle for a physical key like we use in our cars. Even a keyless remote will do.

Most of that claimed number is probably PIN. We like to use it at work. It only works locally and we don't have to give employees the actual password. We were having issues with employees using their login password to sign up for online accounts.

Occasionally a new employee will ask to change their password to one that they "use everywhere". :argh::D:eek::mad:

Good luck accessing your passwordless account once you loose access to your authentication. As if 2FA were not bad enough.
Technically passwordless accounts have been around for a while, like FB, MS, Google, Steam logins, but the core accounts are "safe".

There is probably option around that via telephone call providing details about account and you or identification via drivers license other government issued document with a photo and your ID/SSN etc

USA still the best. But barely.
Is this about iris scanning instead of PW?

I think it's mostly about Windows Hello. PIN, Face Recognition, Fingerprint.

In a company that I work at it just means soft tokens generated by an app on the phone.
Biometrical data have additional legal protection in EU due to GDPR. I wonder whether employer in UE may require employee to use that kind of authentication.

Does Windows Hello can be used alongside Apple laptops? I ask because company I work at also provides an option to workforce in some countries to order Apple laptops so authentication must be possible from mac OS too.

I see that employeer finally deployed passwordless to my work laptop. For almost a year PIN wasn't doing anything more than a password. Now it is different. Password login still works, but most of the Office aka Microsoft 365 apps are disconnected from account. The only ways to i.e. sync to OneDrive is to login via Hello i.e. PIN or use a browser with 2FA.
That being said password isn't going anywhere anytime soon because many internal tools and services only support passwords. Our remote Linux accounts require it as well.
So, yep, 2 separate credentials to remember, use and change every few months....
