Microsoft Update Problem

Hi, while a microsoft update was installing I had a brief power outtage. When I turned the computer back on I get a blue screen every time. I can't get into Safe Mode, Last Known Config blue screens as well and my Acronis True Image don't work either

So...am I screwed?

I have XP Pro

 

-System restore-Try to restore to a previous point
then reapply the update. manually if you wish

 

I *wish* it were that easy. it blue screens before I can even get into Windows

 

can you try a restore from the XP Disk?

possibly, but I'm travelling today and tomorrow and was hoping there was a fix I could effect without any disks since I don't have them with me!

 

You could try to re-install WinXP over the current installation. Don't format, just re-install. It will leave your programs and files as is and replace the system files and registry to the original installation state.

Thanks for the assist, I'm somewhat of a novice so something like this gets me a little nervous

 

Even experience people get nervous when they are trying to fix major problems like this without losing everything.
