Microsoft Translator hits 100-language milestone, reaches 5.6 billion users October 11, 2021 https://www.onmsft.com/news/microsoft-translator-hits-100-languages Microsoft: Microsoft Translator: Now translating 100 languages and counting! Azure AI empowers organizations to serve users in more than 100 languages
Machine Translation will never render human translators obsolete. When accuracy is a must, there is no substitute for human translation.
The problem is human languages are complex, culture bound and contextual. A machine will never grasp slang, jokes and cultural references like folk sayings, proverbs and lingo that differs from culture to culture. It can only do literal translation on a superficial level that's far from capturing the meaning inherent in language. That's why humans have to make corrections and fill out what the machine translation doesn't convey.
all true, but for the time being. anything can happen in the future. i don't think it's possible to foresee the future. during the medieval ages people thought the earth was flat. and now we're going to mars.
Uhm yes it can, if you code it to Literally you can do like, code if X phrase detected translate to Y instead of translating the words 1 by 1. And start from this and expand.
5.6 billion of users is a lot. Does this number include some other integrations, as I don't know anybody actually using an app?
Yeah as if 5.6 billion out of 8 would use Google Translate xDDDDDD More like 5.6 different ips/devices/fingerprints/whatever . So a lot less than 5.6 billion. But ofc they wont show the real stat cuz they want u to think wow dayum 5.6 billion they are so smart to get so many views they are so big *drips panties*
Agreed. You can have a conversation with someone in the same language and misunderstand what was meant.
Ehh with enough training like AlphaGo and AlphaZero it can prob become pretty good. ~ Removed Off Topic Remarks ~
