No not really, more in the category of Windows 98, (Get It?) the number 8 being the common (parallel) denominator to the MS releases equation. How about a plug for 9. Anyone? :D

I think it does, but we'll know more as the market speaks and responds to it over time.

Yup. Actually Windows Vista was a decent service pack upgrade to Windows XP. Its been unfairly maligned. Windows Millenium on the other hand was well deserved crap.

    Nope.

Windows ME suffered from severe stability issues. Windows Vista suffered from severe performance issues. So, these operating systems had severe technical problems.

Windows 8, on the other hand, has no severe technical problems. However, some long time users seem to have their own "technical" (psychological?) problems with the improved usability...

One could also argue that usability aspects are harder to measure and probably more subjective than stability and performance aspects. Oh well..

I would agree with you on the first 2 regarding ME and Vista, but your analysis of Win 8 is totally wrong. Win 8 has severe UI and usability problems, which, in all honesty, can be as serious or even more serious than the issues that ME and Vista had. If MS doesn't fix their "psychogical" problems, they will have to deal with incredible failure in the home market in the next year or two.

I like Metro. What's the first thing most people open after Windows loads? Firefox or Internet Explorer? With Win8 it's one click. With Win7 it's two clicks. The same applies to opening Windows Explorer, Office, etc. Metro is a time saver.

What's the hype with a button? The way I see it, the problem was never the lack of a button, rather the lack of a menu. Keep the button to yourself Microsoft. o_O o_O

Obviously you've completely forgotten about the Dock (Quick Launch in previous OS), Desktop Shortcuts, and even how the Windows Key opens Start Menu as well. Need more reminders?

Steve Balmer and the klutzes who work at Microsoft still don't get it! They push the Metro crap forward in Windows 8.1 - in Redmond-speak, that's called "listening to customers."

I'll stick with the Windows 7 Aero interface. It works for me!

The boot to desktop option is an improvement, but they still need to remove Metro entirely and make it a real OS. I guess that's the bottom line, IMO. Oh well.... ;)

If there is a start button why not make it usable instead of just bringing up the start screen:( Lets hope that third party start menu replacements continue to work with 8.1

Microsoft has given me another reason not to upgrade - they haven't learned from their dismal sales of Windows 8 and want to force Metro down people's throats because they hold a monopoly in the computing market. That's precisely the problem.

Fat chance on that. No way MS is going to relent on Metro now that they set up shop right smack dab in front of our faces
on the desktop. aka The Store bahhhh! Pfffft!

What a waste of resources and talent typical of MS monopoly mindset NOT TRUE INNOVATION.
