Microsoft launched the new Outlook.com web interface today after eight months of beta testing and tweaking. Microsoft customers could opt-in to test the new interface early during that period and provide the company with feedback.

The new Outlook.com will be pushed to customers gradually starting in July. Microsoft plans to listen to customer feedback to improve the experience further going forward.
Organizations who blocked the opt-in toggle to join the new Outlook.com experience will be upgraded to the new version eventually as Microsoft will remove the option to block the new interface.

Microsoft is bringing Gmail, Google Drive, and Calendar to Outlook.com
Outlook is getting full Google integration on the web

Microsoft is planning to integrate Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Calendar into its Outlook.com web mail client.
The software maker has started testing this integration on some accounts recently, and Twitter user Florian B was able to access it today. After a quick setup process, you simply link a Google Account to an Outlook.com account, and Gmail, Drive documents, and Google Calendar will all be automatically displayed inside Outlook.com on the web.

While most people would simply visit Gmail for their mail, this new Outlook integration could be useful for those who use a personal Outlook.com account and a G Suite email account for work.
We’ve reached out to Microsoft for comment on when this will roll out to all Outlook.com users, and we’ll update you accordingly.

After developing a new web browser based on Google’s open-source Chromium engine, Microsoft is now also playing nicer with Google’s own emailing and storage services.

Along with Tom Warren from The Verge, we’re now seeing the new Google integrations on our end. However, it is noteworthy that this feature isn’t standard: It will only show up of you’re an Outlook.com Premium member, either paid or as included free as part of Office 365.
Once the Gmail and Google Drive integration is available for you, you’ll notice a pop-up message in your Outlook.com inbox, which looks like the one in the featured image above.

At the end of the day, it is indeed quite convenient to have access to Gmail directly from within Outlook.com, as it moves the experience closer to what you get with the dedicated Outlook app.
The experience still has quite a ways to go, but I am glad to see the new Microsoft in action and playing nice with Google services.

Got really excited there for a moment until I saw this.

I've been locked out of my Outlook.com/Microsoft account for almost a week now. No access to mail, store, microsoft discussion forums, etc. I don't use their cloud, luckily.

I think their spy computer must have disliked one of the several silly jokes I tried to send to my wife in an Outlook.com e-mail to brighten up her day. Filled out the "locked account review form" and got an e-mail that someone will be responding within 24 hours. It's been days and I've received nothing. I gave up on them after 2 days and chose another free e-mail provider. It's the first issue I've ever had like this in the 25 years I've been using e-mail.

The lights are on at Outlook.com but is anyone home?
