    I need an opinion. My son this past weekend said that after watching the computer shut down and reboot itself 4 times, and the "CD/DVD" doors open and shut on their own, he got a message saying like " I have your computer now". Is this possible or not? I thought that I should post this, after running both spybot and ad aware, to see if someone could tell me what to do, and how to better my chances of protection.

    Welcome to Wilders.

    Before you start, please unzip or move HijackThis to a separate folder. The program will make backups in the folder it's in. These easily get lost in a temporary folder or a folder with other programs.

    Some of the items are from viruses. I would strongly suggest you do an online virus scan. Some good online scans can be found HERE.

    Check the following items in HijackThis. Please note that all of these may not be there now depending on what the on-line AV scan finds.
    Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    Download CWShredder and run. Be sure ALL other windows are closed and use the Fix button and follow the instructions you will receive.

    Then reboot in Safe Mode and delete the following:

    SYSTEMCHECK.EXE <-- You may have to do a search for this.
    C:\WINNT\system32\dp-b23011805.exe
    YYPSDSYWQJX.EXE <-- You may have to do a search for this.

    Reboot and then post a fresh HijackThis log.

    first please copy these 3, zip them and send to me at the email address listed on the spykiller site in my signature, with a short note referring to this thread

    then
    download and install regprot from
    http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=regprot

    press no when it asks to any of these and keep saying no when it persists

    YYPSDSYWQJX.EXE
    SYSTEMCHECK.EXE
    \WINDLL32XP.EXE

    Reboot into safe mode by following instructions here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406
    then as some of the files or folders you need to delete may be hidden do this:
    Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
    Click "Apply" then "OK"

    regprot might warn again when you reboot so still block those entries

    then
    Run hijackthis, tick these entries listed below and ONLY these entries, double check to make sure, then make sure all browser & email windows are closed and press fix checked

    OK I have done all of the procedures as stated above, with the exception of zipping the files asked for. ( I couldn't find them.) Now what do I do? Am I safe to access my online banking? Please advise!

    Your log is clean now. You should be fine if you could not find those files as long as you set your system to show hidden and system files as instructed by Derek above.
