I've used Iron for over a year. It still has a few instability problems so I tend to use Chrome more these days. The latest Iron release is the best yet though. Isn't Maxthon 'Trident' based like Internet Explorer?

yes, it is, that's way I'm cautios, yet I remember vividly the day I installed it on my PC and loving it..for some time...and it was like 5 years ago so wondering now if the changes it'd undergone were for good or bad..

I've never used it myself. People do love it though. I downloaded Sleipnir once & that is also Trident-based with a Mozilla plug-in that you have to load separately (which appears to be suspended at the moment). It looked OK but eventually I uninstalled it.

The upcoming Maxthon 3 has dual engines - WebKit and Trident. It uses the former by default.

    .
I've been using Maxthon 2.X as a secondary browser for a long time. It was one of the first to offer its' own favorites sync service. It works very well - fast and stable - but it hasn't developed many extensions/plugins ala Firefox so it can't be customized very much. Maxthon 3 is coming - the betas look good, but version 2 has more functionality at this point.

Edit: The latest version of Maxthon 3 is a Release Candidate build. It is still less configurable then Maxthon 2.0. For instance there are no tab management options. I hope they flesh out the GUI for the final.

That looks very promising. I am sort of tempted to give Maxthon a spin one day.

I keep using Max occasionally, when a true need arises, even if IE is badly tamed/scraped on my xp pro SP3 setup (I'm even used to say uninstalled), with the help of xpLite Pro.

"Maxthon Classic" walking nice "on" IE6's rests here, with a wee bit added minimal feeling of security on its masterchef's skeleton, plus a good deal of new functionalities.

Back then, I tried many other possible IE's drag queens before settling for her (and there was some pretty good candidates at that time, 3 years ago).

For now, Maxthon would be my very first condition to continue to make a certain minimal use of IE6-7-8. I will see what I will be able to do with the newly rumored sculptural IE 9ht versioning to come, after first having an obligatory trial of it, evidently. Maybe they will also push out a upgrade version of xpLite Pro :doubt: , somewhere !

A new build of Maxthon 3 is available = 3.0.17.1000

This version adds back many options that are available in Maxthon 2.X and makes the browser a lot more usable IMHO. Check it out here:

I'm trying Maxthon right now, it's really impressive. I used to use it many years ago when it was called myie2.

Thanks JRViejo, I've just installed Maxthon portable. It's been a while since I've looked at Maxthon. Does anyone know if it has a reliable adblocker?

If you want security you don't want some 3rd party Chromium build. You want Chrome.

This build - 3.1.3.2000 has a new "reader" mode. It's similar to "Readability", where you click an icon when you're on a webpage and it strips out all the graphics to make it easy to read the text. It's great having this feature built in.
