Just some food for thought. If Avira, kaspersky and avast can get 99 and 98% on AV-comp, why can't the ones mentioned in this test. If you look at the testing method it shuts down the real time scanning and places all the samples in a folder. It then runs the full scan. So lets say that A-squared has over 3 million signatures. I don't think it would be out of the realm of impossibility to detect a mere 250K samples.

Meaning....That the test is valid and that it does have some worth as a static test of signature base.

Just to add more food to your plate; I believe in the latest AV-C test 1.2 million samples were used. Where did they get these from? How can they be sure every single one is malicious?

Then we can't trust a single AV, all results are false positives :D

AV-Comparatives is well respected in the anti-virus industry. To say their tests are useless is not true and is misleading.

    For instance, Kaspersky says this:

I'm sure VB 100 and av-comparatives would love to know how to run AV tests the "right" way.

    To all:

One post focusing on personalities removed.

    Here's the deal....
    • If you wish to discuss the merits (or lack thereof) of any particular testing protocol, do so, but focus on the test(s) not the tester(s).
    • Try to keep comments centered on material you actually have a finite chance of having personal knowledge of. When you start commenting on motivation/etc., it's very likely you're heading off the rails.
    • Stay on the nominal thread topic - which is MRG Test #23 in this thread.
    Regards,

    Blue

    And A2 uses Ikarus.

Why a software would name itself after Ikarus is a mystery to me. Ikarus crashed & died.

Yep, Americans don't get British humour.

    Australians are the same.

Best to make sure the audience is totally British or keep it to yourself.:D

Write history without us. Shock, horror, what does this mean? (For Brits only)

It's something to do with starting school at 5 and learning about 2000 years of history by 16. Ups and downs...

    ttfn,
    Ian
