    Ah, ok, I'm with you.

It just dawned on me that the laptop model number can be found on the laptop itself.

I will see what I can gather from the manufacturer website early tomorrow, thanks for the tip.

Should I look for an Ethernet Controller driver first then to get the internet running?

Also, how do I know what 'unknown device' is?

Thanks again, I will let you know what I find from Toshiba. I will aim to get the internet working ASAP, then the rest of the drivers should fall into place.

I'm very glad the soundcard driver is already functioning.

That's good to know the TBOSDT has so many other uses, though it does seem very complicated.

Would it be easy to load up another image from my desktop if I wanted to update?

I'm happy now, because I know the backup worked but could I have just used something like remote access and saved an image to cloud storage?

    Just wondering :)

    All the best

Either the LAN, if that's what you use, or the laptop's WIRELESS interface. Be careful is chasing the wireless... many manufacturers use different wireless hardware during the model's life, and as a result, offer all of them for download... only one will load/work.
This little utility, the "Unknown Device Identifier," has been one of the most useful apps I've ever had on a Windows system. It documents all your drivers, and all the unidentified ones... just drill down from the unidentified device and it will show you the device's manufacturer, sometimes the model, and its device number. All can be useful in finding drivers.

When you use it, will ask you if you wanna save them... if you do, it vectors off to a PAID app that can help with that if you want them for futur use.

Only if you have all your drivers packaged and ready to install after the update has been done. That's what reDeploy in Macrium's REFLECT package offers you... a functioning restoration on dissimilar hardware. At that point you load all of your needed drivers for that system and you're good to go.

There are some driver collecting apps that do what the UDI (Unknown Device Identifier) does from HunterSoft. I've used Driver Genius Pro with very good results, but there are others... GOOGLE is your friend.
I'm not sure what you're asking here. Are you talking about desktop images in the cloud that you will use on that laptop, or just storing laptop images there. Any image should be accessible from the cloud and used for restoration purposes... you just have to be prepared if you're redeploying on different hardware.

Nuobu, one of the better "driver collctors" out there is called DOUBLE DRIVER and can be found on MajorGeeks. It can collect all your 3rd party drivers as well as all the stock MicroSloth drivers (not needed, really). It can also restore them on demand. It's an older program and has a minor problem on the modern systems when using one of its features... putting all the collected drivers into one single installation EXE. This is really useful when putting HUMPTY back together again. The anomaly occurs at the end of the process (it crashes) but when the output folder is examined... all is there. I haven't done a single EXE restore with DD yet but the individually collected folders have all the needed components in them for future use.

Thanks. I managed to find a good amount of drivers for Win 7 64 bit, I will let you know how I get on with them later.

That looks like a handy utility, I will give it a try.

I may also give driver collectors a spin, but I might just transfer new data via dropbox or usb (between machines) and any new programs I will just install on both.

Please ignore the remote access comment, it was just an afterthought. I don't think wake up on LAN is going to be viable for me, as I'm not comfortable with leaving power on overnight for many reasons.

By the way, is there any way I can force a windows update tonight or do I have to wait for it to happen?

I'm not sure how you have your Windows Update settings set up. At any time you ought to be able to do a MANUAL update and M$ will tell you if anything's available. You'll also need to make sure that the setting on your Windows Update is for ALL M$ Products, not just the operating system (see comment in Updates window).

Tried a single EXE restore this morning after having completely removed two of my system drivers... all worked very well with the restore portion of the program checking all the existing drivers to see if any needed updating as compared to the collection it was dealing with, and installing the two that I had removed. A reBOOT and all was well.

    Hey there,

I have located most of my drivers but I'm still missing a couple, I was wondering if you had any advice?

I used the Unknown Device Identifier and found that I'm missing AMD Hudson SMBus Controller and AMD FCH USB XHCI Controller.

I'm missing the USB the most. I have looked through the Toshiba website and I have contacted AMD but they seem to keep sending me automated replies.

    Hope all is well

You never gave us the laptop make'n'model #... we could probably help more if we had it.

Nuobu, the drivers most likely to work in that laptop running W7x64 are below...

    USB

    Hardware Chipset

If for some reason one of the above doesn't work for you, here's the LINK for all the W7x64 drivers for that machine...

Well, I just relooked at your message and you gave me two different laptop models... the one you wrote was a L500D and the link is for a L50D-B.

The drivers I gave you are for a Satelite L50D-B series with that particular CPU in it. Check to be sure what you're working with...

Arg. Sorry, that must have been a typo. I am definitely using the Satelite L50D-B. Thank you for finding these drivers for me!

There are a couple of things amiss with the laptop apart from the drivers which are supposed to be missing. For example, I find the track pad and qwerty keyboard a bit buggy. Also, my laptop doesn't appear to have a sleep mode, it just goes blank when the lid is closed and then says 'resuming windows.'ou

I've installed something called Sleep Utility which made no difference and I couldn't find anything for keyboard/track pad.

Do you think these are driver problems or just settings which have changed?

    Thank you

I installed these drivers but still no joy. The USB driver up shows up as a 'USB Filter Driver' during installation, I think I need a different one. The hardware chipset didn't seem to do anything.

Or, is it possible that I need to uninstall the existing instances first?

I will keep trying, thanks for the help

Is there any chance I can revive this thread?

I would really like to get the USB working on my laptop, I can't seem to find a driver for it.

    Thanks a buncha Froggie

I had all but totally forgot about this little jewel: Also DD.

As you might have already read from another post I been busy outfitting (2) used lappys with new HDDs (Not SSD) and the didn't post on it but ran into some slight "drivers" difficulty, one for the touchpad, one for the HDMI port, and another issue was with HD Graphics. Although I manually fished them out from a score of available drivers on the net (until the right ones worked) these 2 little apps will save some time the next go round, so again my thanks.
On some lappys with Intel, the Intel drivers are much better than the stock model laptop hardware and more up-to-date.
