I'm using the last free version. Lately I've been having an issue where I can't use my laptop until the Macrium backup and verification finishes. Anyone else seen this?

I've tried setting Priority in Advanced Settings; setting priority with the slider in the interface; task manager; and I've tried both below normal and low setting. It's like Macrium is just ignoring my priority settings.

I've used Macrium a long time but I've only noticed this issue in the last six months or so. I don't know if it's my version. Maybe going back to an earlier version might help but I only want to do that as a last resort. I've been thinking about switching to a different product but Macrium has done me so well for so long I'm reluctant to switch. I'd really like to hear from anyone who has had this issue and were able to fix it without switching to a different program.

I never keep it, I just create the recovery USB stick then uninstall it. When I want to backup or restore, I just boot into the recovery USB. Macrium Reflect Service is always running, even if you set the service to Manual rather than Automatic, it chances it self back to Automatic and it has 3 entries in startup

Might just be a glitch in Macrium or a conflict with another service or software. Have you tried completely uninstalling Macrium and reinstalling it from scratch?

I use the paid version of Macrium 8.1, which is the same as the free version but with more options, and I have no such issues.

I tried setting the affinity for Macrium in Task Manager to use only one processor; this time my system didn't freeze. It only took about a minute longer but that's no biggie. Hopefully this will be a workaround for the time being.

Restore an older image prior to having these issues and you'll get your answer of what could be causing the problem. All this removing / reinstalling etc is time wasting when restoring an older image (after making an image of the current OS) saves so much time diagnosing this and that.

I agree about the reinstalling; I'd only do that as a very last resort. I don't like to restore very old images; too may things I'd have to update to get it back to where it was. Besides, it's working beautifully now with the workaround I mentioned. Did a little research and found a way to make a shortcut that opens Macrium with any CPU affinity I want. Easy peasy.
